RESOLUTION NO. 1629
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA
PROVIDING FOR THE PURCHASE OF REAL ESTATE FOR A SITE THEREIN
FOR MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS, FOR THE EXECUTION OF NECESSARY AGREE-
MENT IN CONNECTION THEREWITH, ACCEPTING GRANT DEED COVERING
CERTAIN REAL PROPERTY AND FOR THE TRANSFER OF FUNDS FROM THE
WATER DEPARTMENT DEPRECIATION AND REEERVE FUND TO THE GENERAL
FUND OF SAID CITY TO PROVIDE FUNDS FOR SUCH PURCHASE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS :
SECTION 1. WHEREAS, in the opinion of this Council, due to
the rapid growth and development of the City of Arcadia, there
exists an urgent need for an adequate site for the location and
construction of a civic cente~, within which to house the several
departments of municipal government and operations, and
WHEREAS, The City Council, upon proper investigation
and study of the problems involved, has concluded that an available
site of approximately thirteen acres situated on Huntington Drive,
immediately south of the intersection of Colorado Place, in said
City, meets the requirements of, and is appropriate to, the City
of ~rcadia for such purpose, and
WHEREAS, a committee of representative citizens
and tax payers from the various sections of the City has recom-
mended the selection of the aforesaid site and its purchase by the
City for this purpose, and
WHEREAS, the purchase of the site herein mentioned
and described will enable the City Council to arrange for the sale
of other real property, now belonging to the City, the use of which
for municipal purposes will no longer be required, and
WHEREAS, the City Council has made an investigation
of the suitability and the cost of the proposed site on Huntington
Drive and is satisfied that the location is appropriate and the
purchas e price of $39,324,00 is fair and reasonable, and
WHEREAS, the balance on hand in the Water Depart-
ment Depreciation and Reserve Fund of said City, as of March 31, 1947,

is the sum of One Hundred Fifty Nine Thousand Three Hundred
Fourteen and 25/100 Dollars ($159,314.25),
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that thereb~
transferred from the Water Department Depreciation and Reserve
Fund of said City to the General Fund of said City the sum of
Thirty Nine Thousand Three Hundred Twenty Four Dollars ($39,324.00).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said sum of Thirty
Nine Thousand Three Hundred Twenty Four Dollars ($39,324.00) be
returned to said Water Department Depreciation and Reserve Fund
by transferring thereto an equal amount from the Admissions Tax
Fund, which latter fund now amounts to the sum of Eighty One
Thousand Six Hundred Twenty Seven and 25/100 ($81,627.25), as
soon as the proceeds of such Admission Tax Fund become available
to the City of Arcadia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if the present
amount of the said Admissions Tax Fund should not become available
to the City, then and in that event provision shall be made by
this Council for the repayment and return of the aforesaid sum
of $39,324.00 to the Water Department Depreciation and Reserve
Fund by transferring thereto from the General Fund of said City
at the end of each fiscal year beginning June 30, 1947, a sum equal
to one-eighth of the amount so transferred as aforesaid for a
period of eight consecutive years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the said amount of
Thirty Nine Thousand Three Hundred Twenty Four Dollars ($39,324.00)
be used and applied towards the purchase by the City of the afore-
mentioned real property consisting of approximately thirteen acres in
the City of Arcadia, County of Los Angeles, and being a portion of
Lot 5, of Tract No. 949, as shown on Map recorded in Book 17, Page
13 of Maps, records of Los Angeles County, (as more particularly
described in Grant Deed hereto attached and by this reference made

a part of this Resolution).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that upon the furnishing to
the City of Arcadia of appropriate evidence of the ability of the
vendor to grant to the City a clear and marketable title to said
real property, through escrow or otherwise, the Mayor and City
Clerk of the City of Arcadia be, and they are hereby, authorized
and directed to execute in the name of and on behalf of the
said City that certain Agreement dated May 6, 1947, between
Rancho Santa Anita, Inc., a corporation, as vendor of the afore-
mentioned real property, and the City of Arcadia, a municipal
Corporation, as purchaser thereof, relating to the use of said
property for municipal or public purposes, and that the City of
Arcadia accept from Rancho Santa Anita, Inc., -a corporation, -. .-
Grant Deed dated May 6, 1947, conveying to the City of Arcadia
the aforesaid real property situated in the City of Arcadia and
described more particularly in said Grant Deed.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this Resolution.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia,
held on the 6th day of May, 1947, by the affirmative vote of at
least three Councilmen, to wit:
