RESOLUTION NO. 1510.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNC~ OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA,
CALIFORNIA, PROTESTING THE CONDITION EXISTING IN A PART OF THE
RIGHT OF WAY OF THE SANTE FE RAILWAY IN SAID CITY OF ARCADIA.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTIOX 1. WHEREAS, there exists at the present time an
arch culvert under the tracks of the Sante Fe Railway Compahy
located at a point approximately four thousand feet west of the
depot of said railroad in the City of Arcadia, said culvert having
been constructed by said railroad many years ago; and
WHEREAS, in recent years new highways, streets,
driveways and buildings of various types have been built in an area
extending north to the City of Sierra Madre and to, and including,
the northern part of the City of Arcadia which have added to, and
seriously increased, the drainage problems of the City of Arcadia; and
WHEREAS, said railroad has recently improved the
channel along the north side of the right-of-way of said railroad and'
northerly to Foothill Boulevard by straightening the alignment thereot
and improving the bank, which work has substantially increased the flow
of water from this direction and leading into said culvert; and
WHEIlEAS, the aforementioned arch culvert is in-
adequate to provide for proper drainage with the result that on svveral
occasions in recent years the combined run-off has caused said culvert
to fill, backing up the accumulated water so that such water flowed
south and east along said railroad tracks to the underpass on Colorado
Boulevard, in said City of Arcadia, filling the roadway within said
underpass with mud !nd water and thus creating a dangerous condition
for the pUblic and causing considerable expense to the City of Arcadia
in the matter o~ cleaning out said underpass.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that, in the opinion
of the Council of the City of Arcadia,it is requisite that the Sante Fe
Railway Company take immediate steps to enlarge the existing culvert
