RESOLUTION NO. 1231.
A RESOLUTION OF' THE CITY COU11CIL OF THE CITY or A.~CA:JIA
REQUESTING THE BOdUl OF SUPERVISORS OF LOS JUWELES COUNTY TO CAUSE
CERTAIH WORK TO BE DONE IN THE CHANNEL OF THE SAIITA ANITA ':lASH IN
THE CITY OF ARCADIA.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. WHEREAS, the Santa Anita ~ash wbich passes tbrough
the City of Arcadia, is one of the principal water carriers for storm
waters from the mountains north of the City of Arcadia, and said Santa
Anita Wash is part of the flood control system of the County of Los
Angele s, and
WHEREAS, as a result of the heavy rain fall in the latter part
of January, 1943, s8.id Santa Ani ta wash was filled wi th water to such
a desree that the W8.ter left the channel of said wash approximately three-
fourths of a mile north of Foothill Boulevard in the City of Arcadia and
that waid water was diverted southwesterly from said wash on to First
Avenue in said City; that by reason of said water being diverted several
thousand yards of rcck, sand and silt were carried on to First Avenue
in addition to the water which flowed southerly across Foothill Boulevard
on First Avenue to sucb an extent that business houses and homes along
said Street were dmLaged by reason of said sand, silt and water going
over the curbs of said street and into said buildings, and
WHEREAS, it is the opinion of this Council that said water
broke out of the channel of Santa Anita Wash by r~aeon of said channel
not having been straightened from a point approximately three quarters
of a mile north of Pootbill Boulevard and extending for a distance of
approximately 1,000 feet, and
WHEREAS, even though this Council is aware of tbe fact that
permanent materials are difficult to obtain for work on said channel
because of priorities in effect made neoessary by the war effort, it is
of the opinion that it is vitally necessary to the protection of the
lives ani bomes and property of the citizens of Arcadia that said channel
be repaired to the greatest extent possible under present conditions,
NO';'l, TRLR3FOHE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Be ard of Supervisors
of Los Angeles County be and it is hereby respectfully requested to cause

the channel of Santa Anita Wash to be repaired by straightening the
channel of said wash for an estimated distance of approximately
1,000 feet at a location approximately three quarters of a mile north
of Foothill Bouleva~i, or by such other maans as in the opinion of
the Board of Supervisors and/or the Los Angeles County Flood Control,
will insure the greatest 8ll101.Ult of safety to the people and property
in the Ci ty of Arcadia.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption
of th~s Resolution.
I heregy certify that tbe foregoing Resolution was adopted at
a regular meeting of the'City C01.Ulcil of the City of Arcadia, held on
the 2nd day of February, 1943, by the affirmative vote of at least three
Councilmen, to-wit:
