RESOLUTION NO. 1834
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA
DECLARING ITS INTENTION TO ANNEX CERTAIN UNINHABITED TERRI-
TORY TO TH~ CITY OF ARCADIA, GIVING NOTICE OF TilE PROPOSED
ANNK~ATION AND DESCRIBING THE BOUNDARIES OF THE TERRITORY
PROPOSED TO BE ANilEXED.
TH~ CITY COUNCIL OF THB CITY OF ARCADIA DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLWV:S:
WHEREAS, pursuant to the "Annexation of Uninhabi ted Terri tor;,'
Act of 1939" there have been filed vlith this Council the verified
petition of Winchester Cooley and Hattie C. Iler, requesting that
certain uninhabited territory in the County of Los AnBelegn State of
California contiguous to the boundaries of the City of Arcadia be
annexed to the City of Arcadia, and requesting that the City Council
of the City of Arcadia pass a Resolution giving notice of such proposed
annexation, and
WHEREAS, less than twelve (12) registered voters reside in
the territory herein described and sought to be annexed to the Cit:;
of Arcadia, and
WHEREAS, it appears from said petition that the petitioners
are the owners of the whole of the area of the land sought to be so
annexed, and that said petitioners represent the whole of the assessed
value of the said land according to the last preceding assessment roll
of the said County of Los Angele s, and
WHBREAS, said territory comprises certain parcels of land bounded
on the east by certain property in the City of Arcadia adjoining
Baldwin Avenue, and more particularly described as follows, towit:
That portion of Lot 5, Block "A" of the Santa Anita Land CO!'1pany's
Tract, County of Los Angeles,State of California, as per map recorded
in Book 6 page 137 of 1laps, in the office of the County Recorder of
said County, described as follows:
BEGINNI~G at the Northeasterly corner of said Lot 5; THENCE
South 800 45' West, along the Northerly line thereof 166.08 feet,
more or less to the Northeasterly corner of the land conveyed by
Edward T. Shekell to Anna H. Williams by deed dated 1/18/24, and

recorded in Book 3081, Page 98 Official Records of Los Angelea
County, California; thence South 80 50' East, parallel with the
Westerly line of said Lot 5, 207 feet more or less to the Northerly
line of land conveyed by Edward T. Shekell and wife to Walter C.
Shekell and wife, by deed recorded in Book 6411 Page 78 of deeds,
Records of Los Aneeles County; thence Easterly ~ong said Northerly
line and the Easterly prolongation thereof to the Easterly line of
said Lot 5; thence Northerly along said Easterly line to the point
of beginning.
EXCEPT the Northerly 25 feet included within the lines of Naomi
Drive.
is owned by petitioner, Winchester Cooley, a married man, as his
sole and separate property;
That portion of Lot 5. in Block "A" of the Santa anita Land Company's
Tract, in the County of Los Angeles, state of California, as per map
recorded in Book 6, Page 137 of Maps, in the office of the County
Recorder of said County, described as follows:
BEGINNING at a point in the North line of said Lot 5, distant there-
on West 266.08 feet from the Northeast corner thereof; thence South
080 50' East, parallel with the Westerly line of said lot, 207 feet
more or less, to the intersection with the Westerly prolongation of
the Northerly line of the land conveyed by Edward T. Shekell and vdfe,
to Walter C. Shekell and wife, by deed recorded in Book 5380, Page 251
of Deeds; thence Easterly along said prolongation and the Northerly
line of the land so conveyed, 100 feet; thence North 080 50' West,
parallel with the Westerly line of said Lot 5, 207 feet, more or less,
to the North line of said Lot 5; thence West along the Northerly line
of said Lot 5, 100 feet to the point of beeinning.
EXCEPTING therefrom the Northerly 25 feet, included within the
lines of Naomi Drive, 50 feet wide as now established,
is owned by petitioner, Hattie C. Iler, a married woman, who acquired
title to said property as Hattie C. Hofer;
VrHEREAS, said petitions are signed by the owners of not less:
than one-fourth of the area of the land in such territory and

representing not less than one-fourth of the assessed vane of
such territory according to the last preceding equalized assessment
roll of the County of Los Angeles, State of Cmifornia, in which
~uch territory is situated;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
SECTION 1. That pursuant to the "Annexation of Uninhabited
Territory Act of 1939" this City Council hereby gives notice of
said proposed annexation of said uninhabited territory, described
herein, to the City of Arcadia.
SECTION 2. Said Territory is hereby designated for iden-
tification as "':Ies-c Arcadia Annex No.4".
SECTION 3. The City Council hereby gives notice of and fixes
the 1st day of March, 1949, at 8:00 0' clock, P.!,!. of said day, in
the Council Chamber in the City Hall of the City of Arcadia, as
the day, hour and place when and where any and all persons owning
any real property within said territory so proposed to be annexed,
and having any objections to the proposed ~nexation may appear
before said City Council and show cause why said territory should
not be so annexed to the City of Ariadia.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolution, and shall cause the same tobe published once a
week for two successive weeks prior to s aid hearing on March 1,
1949, in the ia'cb-dia Tribune and Arcadia News, anewspap er of
general circulation, pUblished and circulated in the City of Arcadia,
and hereby designated for that purpose.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia,
held on the 1st day of February, 1949, by the affirmative vote of
at least three Counci1men~ to wit:
