RESOLUTION OF INTENTION NO. 18~9
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, DECLAR-
ING ITS INTENTION TO FORM A LIGHTING MAINTEN~CE DISTRICT, WHICH
DISTRICT IS TO PAY THE COST AND EXPENSES FOR THE MAINTENANCE AND
OPERATION OF A STREET LIGHTING SYSTEM NOW INSTALLED ON PORTIONS OF
S~TA ANITA AVENUE, OAKWOOD DRIVE, FIRST AVENUE AND ORANGE GROVE
AVENUE IN SAID CITY. AND FIXING A TIME AND PLACE FOR HEARING OBJECT-
IONS TO THE FORMATION OF SAID DISTRICT OR TO THE EXTENT THEREOF.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION ~. That t he public interest and convenience require and
that it is the intention of the City Council of the City of Arcadia to
form a lighting maintenance district to be known as Lighting Maintenance
District No.1, for the purpose of assessing said district to pay a
portion of the cost and expenses of maintaining and operating a street
lighting system consisting of thirty-two (32) 2500 lumen lamps now
installed on portions of Santa Anita Avenue, Oakwood Drive, First
Avenue and Orange Grove Avenue.
SECTION 2.. The items of expense of maintenance rod operation of
the said lighting system to be furnished and to be assessed in part
against the lands within the district, (exclusive of improvements),
are electric power, repairs, replacements, maintenance, labor, materials,
engineering, printing and advertising. The estimated amount of electric
power necessary for said system for each year is seventeen thousand
seven hundred forty one (17,741) Kilowatt hours and the estimated cost
of said electric power for the first year of maintenance' and operation
is the sum of $299.52~ and that

SECTION 3. That the said contemplated maintenance and operation
of said lighting system in the opinion of the City Council of the City
of Arcadia is of more than local or ordinary public benefit and said
City Council hereby makes the expense of said maintenance and operation,
exclusive of the amount to be paid by said City as stated in Section
5 hereof, chargeable upon a district, which district said City Council
hereby declares to be the district benefited by said maintenance and
operation and to be assessed to pay the cost and expenses thereof;
which said district shall, in general, include all those lots fronting

on said portions of said streets.
A plat or map of said District indicating by a boundary line the
extent of the lands included in the proposed district was approved and
adopted by Resolution No. 1838 of the City Council of said City of
Arcadia, and is on file in the office of the City Clerk of the City of
Arcadia. Reference is hereby made to said plat or map for further,
full and complete description of said Lighting Maintenance District
No.1, and said map so on file shall govern for all details as to the
extent of such district.
SECTION 4. That said maintenance and operation shall be furnished
for said system for a period of five years from the date of the form-
ation of said district.
SECTION 5. The City Council of the City of Arcadia hereby orders
that forty (40%) per cent of the total maintenance and operation cost
and expenses of said system be paid out of the treasury of said City
from the general fund of said City.
SECTION 6. Notice is hereby given that on Tuesday, the 15th day
of March, 1949, at the hour of 8:00 O'clock. P.M. of said d~, in
the Council Chambers of said City Council of said City of Arcadia, in
the City Hall of said City, any and all persons owning land or having
any interest inllands within the district liable to be assessed for
the expenses of said maintenance and operation or any portion thereof,
may be heard and any of said persons may present any objections that
they may have by protest.
SECTION 7. All the proceedings for the aforesaid maintenance
and operation of said system shall be had and taken under and in
accordance with the provisions of an act of the Legislature of the
State of California known and designated as the Municipal Lighting
Maintenance District Act of 1927, being Division 14, Part 3 of the
Streets and Highways Code of the State of California.
SECTION 8. The Superintendent of Streets shall post or dause to
be posted, copies of this Resolution headed "Notice of formation of
lighting maintenance district~ along all open streets within said.
district liable to be assessed, in the manner and form required by

SECTION 9. 'The City Cler~ shall certify to the adoption of this
Resolutio~ and shall cause th~ same to be published twice in the
Arcadia Tribune and Arcadia News, a newsp~er of gener&l circulation
published and circulated in the City of Arcadia and hereby designated
for that purpose.
. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was adopted
at ,a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia.
