RESOLUTION NO. 1892
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA,
APPROVING AND GRANTING A ZONE VARIANCE TO PERMIT THE CON-
STRUCTION ~fD USE OF A CHURCH AND OTHER RELATED ACTIVITIES
ON CERTAIN PROPERTY IN SAID CITY.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. WHEREAS, in pursuance of the provisions of Ordinance
No. 760 of the City of Arcadia, adopted May 3, ~949, and more parti-
cularly the provisions of Section l6 of said Ordinance, the Planning
Commission of the City of Arcadia has considered the verified appli-
cation from the owners of certain real property in the City of Arcadia,
for a zone variance on the North one-half of Lot 32, Arcadia Acreage
Tract, as shown on map recorded in Book 10, page 18 of Maps, records
in the office of the County Recorder of Los Angeles County, excepting
therefrom the North 180 feet of the East 160 feet thereof, and
\~EAS, the Planning Commission after consideration of such
application and acting in an advisory capacity to this Council, has
made its recommendations thereon in the following words and figures:
"RESOLUTION NO.1.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
ARCADIA RECOMMENDING THE GRANTING OF A ~ONE VARIANCE TO ALL0W
THE CONSTRUCTION AND USE OF A CHURCH AND OTHER RELATED ACTI-
VITIES ON CERTAIN PROPERTY ON SOUTH SECOND AVENUE.
THE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, on the 31st day of May, 1949, there was filed with
this Commission the petition of Ted R. Hughes, Edwin H. Ramin and
Eve Ramin requesting a zone variance on the North one-half of Lot
32, Arcadia Acreage Tract, as shown on map recorded in Book 10,
page 18 of Maps, records of Los Angeles County, excepting therefrom
the North 180 feet of the East 160 feet thereof, to be used for the

following purpose:

The erection of a church, parish hall, and other buildings
by the Mission of the Transfiguration, Arcadia, a California cor-
poration, for the purpose of conducting religious services and other
religious and related activities, and

WHEREAS, after notice as required by Ordinance No. 760, a
public hearing on the matter was held before this Commission on the
16th day of June, 1949, and all interested parties were given an
opportunity to be heard, artd
WHEREAS, in the opinion of this Commission, churches in general
are a very necessary part of the community development, ~nd the location
of this church in particular will not be detrimental to the public wel-
fare, or injurious to surrounding property, and will not adversely effect
the comprehensive general plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Commission recommend
to the City Council of the City of Arcadia that the above mentioned
petition be approved and granted, subject to the following conditions:
1. That no church buildings shall be erected on the 51.25 foot
frontage of the property on Second Avenue.
2. That in the event of a reasonable access to the property
being provided from First Avenue, or some other source,
then the driveway on the 51.25 foot strip shall be aban-
doned, but the church shall then have the right to con-
struct a residence for the minister thereon.
3. That the construction of the church buildings shall be
started within five years from the effective date of the
variance.
4. That no rights of way to other property shall be granted
over the church property.
The Secretary shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution
and shall forward a copy to the City Council of the City of Arcadia.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was adopted by the
City Planning Commission at a regular meeting held on the 16th day of
June, 1949, by the following vote:

NOW. THEREFORE. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE that the findings and recommendations of the Planning
Commission as incorporated in the foregoing Resolution of the Planning
Commission be and the same are hereby adopted and approved and the
aforesaid application for a variance be and the same is hereby granted
subject only to the conditions set forth in the Resolution of the
Planning Commission herein contained.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolu ti on.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was adopted at
adjourned
a~egular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia. held
on the 30th day of June. 1949. by the affirmative vote of at least
three Councilmen, towit:
