RESOLUTION NO. 1718.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA
PROVIDING FOR PAYMENT OF COMPENSATION FOR ADDITIONAL
PERSONNEL AND FOR OVERTIME WORK TO CERTAIN EMPLOYEES OF
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF SAID CITY.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES HEREBY
RESOLVE AND DETERMINE AS FOLLOWS~
SECTION 1. ~HEREAS, a horse-racing meet will be held and~
conducted in the City of Ar~adia between DeceMber 2~. 194~. and
March &. 1948. and a harness horse-racing meet will be held and
conducted in said city during the Months of April and May. 1948,
and
WHEREAS~ during said horse-racing Meet there
will be a daily intlux into the City of Arcadia of frOM 25.000
to 70.000 persons. and during said harness horse-racing meet
there will be a daily influx into said city of frOM 4,000 to
18.000 persons. in addition to the normal population of said
city, so that the work of the Police Department for the periods
Mentioned will be greatly increased and a serious need created
thereby for additional police personnel and for additional
services and hours by those presently and regularly employed
in the Police DepartMent,
NOVl, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED that the Chief
of Police be !md he is hereby authorized and directed to employ.
in addition to the personnel presently employed in the'Polic&.
Department, not to exceed nineteen fUll time officers and not to
exceed nine- half-tiMe officers at $1.50 per hour to assist the
regular members of the Police DepartMent during the aforesaid,
periods in traffic control and other police problems,;;
BE, IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief of Polic~
be and he is hereby authorized to eMploy and use the regular
meMbers of the PolIce DepartMent of the City of Araadia to assist

in the handling of traffic and other polic~ work. during each
said meet, ill addition to the regular duties of such members.
on an overtiMe basis, for which additional services such mem-
bers shall be paid at the rate o~ $1.50 'per hour in addition
to the regular monthly wages of such members;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief of Policre
shall keep and Maintain and fUrnish to the City Council a fUll
and complete bi-monthly statement during each said meet of the
persons so employed as aforesaid. the hours and days so eMployed,
the location or locations at which such persons were eMployed
and the amount earned by and payable to each such person under
the provisions of this Resolution;:
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that for the period of
December 1, 1947. to May 30. 1948. there shall be paid to the
CaMptain in the Police Department, in addition to his regular
Monthly salary. the sum of' Ninety Dollars ($90.00)' per month
to compensate the Captain for additional and overtime hours ofi.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that for the period oft'
December 1. 194~, through May 30. 1948. there shall be paid to
the Chief' of Police ot said City, in addition to his regular
salary. the SUM of One Hundred Fifty Dollars] ($150.00) per month
as cOMpensation for additional and overtime hours of work per-
f'ormed by hiM in the Police Department of' the City of Arcadia
during the said period of six months.,
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adopt1"oI1'
of this Resolution.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was ado~ted
at a'1regu1ar Dleeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia
held on the 21st day of October. 1947~ by the affirmative vote
of at least three CounCilMen, to wit:,
