A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA,
GRANTING A VARIANCE TO PERl-lIT THE
:ERECTION OF AN ADDITION TO THE CHURCH
BUILDING AT 1027 SOUTH FIRST AVENUE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES
FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That there was filed with the City Planning
Commission on April 15, 1957, the application of the Church of Christ
of Arcadia, as Qwner, for a zone variance to permit the erection of
an addition to the present building on Lot 16, Tract No. 13252, as
shown on map re'~orded in Book 345, pages 6, 7 and 8, of Maps,
records of Los Angeles County, except the West 22 feet thereof, lo-
cated at 1027 South First Avenue, thus eliminating all parking space
on the lot. That after notice as required by Ordinance No. 760 of
the City of Arcadia, as amended, a public hearing was duly held, by
and before said Commission on May 14, 1957, at which time all inter-
ested persons were given a full opportunity to be heard and to pre-
sent evidence. That upon the conclusion of said hearing, said
Commission adopted its certain Resolution No. 255, wherein and where-
by it made certain findings and recommendations to this Council.
SECTION 2. That there were no protests, either oral or
written, against the granting of the variance; that there were only
eight parking places on the parking lot; that permission has been ob-
tained from Saf(~way Stores for the use of their parking lot, adja-
cent to the church on the west, during various church services and
meetings; that imch parking more than fills the need of the church
property for off-street parking and fully complies with the intent
if not the stril:t letter of Ordinance No. 760.
SECTION 3. That the granting of the variance will not be

inconsistent with good planning practice or the provisions of the
mastel" zoning plan, or with the present development of the neigh-
borhood in which said property is located, nor will it adversely affect
the comprehensive general plan. That there is an exceptional circum-
stance applicable to the intended use of the property that does not
apply generally to the property in the same zone, namely, that the
property is to be used for church purposes, for the most part at
times when the adjacent commercial parking lot will not be in use
by store customers.
S~CTION 4. That for the ,foregoing reasons, a variance is
hereby granted to permit the use of the property hereinabove de-
scribed for automobile parking upon the condition that a six-foot
masonry wall ,be erected adjacent to the residential property instead
of the requested wire fence.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution.
