RESOLUTION NO. 2734
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY. OF ARCADIAj CALIFORNIAj
REQUESTING CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL
FOR THE DEDICATION OF PROPERTY FOR
ROAD PURPOSES. .
WHEREAS, Huntington Place, a public street in the City of
Arcadia, California, is a major traffic arterial lying between
Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Avenue; and,
WHEREAS, Huntington Place is a etreet of more than local
importance by reason of its proximity to and use in conjunction with
such major facilities as the Arcadia Civic Center; Methodist Hospi-
tal of Southern California; California National Guard Armory; Santa
Anita Race TraCk; the Arcadia County Park comprising 185 acres and
including a full l8-hole golf course; the El Rancho Shopping Center;
the Arcadia Unified High School; and the Holy Angels Parochial
School, Convent and Rectory; and,
WHEREAS, said Huntington Place is on both the Arcadia City
master plan of streets and highways and on the master plan of
streets and highways of the Los Angeles County Regional Planning
Commission; and,
WHEREAS, by reason of all of the foregoing Huntington
Place necessarily carries an abnormally heavy vehicular traffic vol-
ume, as a result of which the City of Arcadia desires to widen and
improve the northerly side of Huntington Place from Holly Avenue to
Santa Anita Avenue, in the same manner as it has already widened
and improved the southerly side thereof; and,
WHEREAS, in order to accomplish the aforesaid widening of
the northerly side of Huntington Place, the City of Arcadia has re-
quested the County of Los Angeles to set aside twenty feet .of the
northerly side of Huntington Place lying within the Arcadia County
Park as more particularly described hereinafter; and,
WHEREAS, the said 20-foot strip lies along the southerly
boundary of the Arcadia County Park and southerly of the existing

improved park facilities and outside of the existing fence line
thereof, by reason of which the previous and present use of the
park properties will not be adversely affected by the use of said
20-foot strip for purposes of street widening, but on the contrary
the appearance of the park property will be bettered and the access
thereto will be greatly improved by the proposed widening of Hunting-
ton Place; and,
WHEREAS, the widening and improving of Huntington Place as
aforesaid has become acutely necessary as a reBUlt of the rapidly in-
creasing traffic thereon resulting only in part from the development
and use of the Arcadia Unified High School adjacent to the said
street; the California National Guard Armory; the Arcadia Civic Cen-
ter, including the City Hall, Central Police Station and related
facilities; the Methodist Hospital of Southern California now near-
ing completion; the long existing Santa Anita Race Traclq and the
general increase of the population in the immediate vicinity; and,
WHEREAS, the widening and improving of Huntington Plaoe
as proposed has the approval of the Los Angeles County Parks' and
Recreation Department; and;
WHEREAS, said property was dedicated to the County of Los
Angeles by the Federal Government for park purposes, and it will be
necessary to receive Congressional approval for the setting aside
of this 2O-foot strip for street purposes;
NOW. THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA.
CALIFORNIA. DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council does hereby request,
through the Secretary of the Army, that Congressional approval be
promptly obtained for the County of Los Angeles to set aside for
road purposes for the widening of Huntington Place as aforesaid,
the 20-foot strip of land hereinbefore described, and does hereby
respectfully urge the Honorable Congress of the United states of
America, through ite elected representative of this district, the
Honorable Patrick J. Hillings, to expedite by proper Congressional

action the completion of this vital improvement for the benefit of
not only the City of Arcadia but the surrounding cities and un1ncorpo~
rated communities.
SECTION 2. That the property for which Congressional ap-
proval is requested for the County of Los Angeles to set aside for
road purposes as aforesaid is specifically described as follows:
Parcel A. The southerly 20 feet of Lots 5 and 6,
Tract No. 2409~ as shown on map recorded in Book
23, page 23~ of Maps, in the office of the Re-
corder of the County of Los Angeles;
Parcel B. That portion of Lot 3~ Tvact No. 2409,
which lies southerly of a line parallel with and
20 feet northerly, measured at right angles~ from
the southerly line of said lot, ae shown on map
recorded in Book 23, page 23, of Maps, in the
office of the Recorder of the County of Los
Angeles.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk sball certify to the adoption
of this Resolution and shall cause certified copies hereof to be
sent to the Secretary of the Army and the Honorable Patrick J.
Hlllings.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia,
held on the 17th
day of January
, 1956; by the affirma-
tive vote of at least three Councilmen~ to wit:
