RESOLUTION NO.2328
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, GRANTING A ZONE VARIANCE
AFFECTING CERTAIN REAL PROPERTY IN SAID CITY TO
PERMIT THE CONSTRUCTION, ~IAINTENANCE AND OPERATION
OF A PUBLIC SCHOOL THEREON.
WHEREAS, there was filed with the City Planning Commission the
petition of the Arcadia Unified School District for a variance to
permit the following described property, to-wit:
The East 220 feet of Lot 60' the East 220 feet
of Lot 61 except the North i15.62 feet thereof;
the '{est 220 feet of Lot 72 except the North
115.63 feet thereof; and the West 220 feet of
Lot 73; all in Tract No.808 as shown on map re-
corded in Book 16, pages 82 and 83 of Maps, Re-
cords of Los Angeles COUL~ty,
to be used for tlje construction, maintenance and operation of a
public school thereon; and
WHEREAS, after notice as required by 9rdinance No.760 of said
City a public hearing vas duly held on the matter by and before
said City Planning COmmission on the 13th day of January 1953, at
which time all interested persons were given a full opportunity to

be heard and to present evidence; and
WHEREAS, at the conclusion thereof said CommiSSion adopted
its Resolution No.97 wherein it made certain findings and recommen-
dations pertaining to the said requested variance; and the City
Council having reviewed the files in the matter and fully consider-

ed the same;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council .f the City of Arcadia does
hereby find, determine and resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. That there were no protests to the granting of the
proposed variance. That subject property is properly located and
well suited for a public school and has heretofore oeen approved as
a school site by the City Planning Commission. That the granting
of the variance requested will not be inconsistent with good plan-
ning practice or the provisions of the Master Zoning Plan, or with
the present development of the neighborhood in which said property
is located, nor will the granting of the variance as hereinafter
provided adversl~ly affect the comprehensive general plan. That

. substantial property rights in that the o\1ner is the Arcadia Uni-
fied School District, charged with the provision of adequate facilities
for instruction of the youth of this community; that large parcels
of land are req~Lred for school purposes and subject property was
acquired after approval of the site by this Commission and cannot
be lawfully used by applicant for any other purpose; that it is
essential for the welfare of the inhabitants of this City that such
property be used for school purposes. That the nature of applicant's
obligations and ~he size of the property required by it are circum-

stances not appl~cable generally.
SECTION 2. That for the above reasons a variance is hereby
granted to permit the above described property to be used for the
construction, maintenance and operation of a pUblic school thereon,
upon condition that access sufficient for emergency equipment at
all times during the use of this variance be maintained to and from
said property from and to Sixth and Eighth Avenues.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption

of this Resolution.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia,
held on the 20th day of January, 1953, by the'affirmative vote of
at least three Councilmen, to-wit:
