RESOLUTION NO. 3867
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA,
RECOGNIZING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF
ITS CITIZEN "JOHNNY LONGDEN" UPON
HIS RETIREMENT FROM HORSE RACING.
WHEREAS, John Longden culminated his racing career on
March 12, 1966, by winning the San Juan Capistrano Handicap at Santa
Anita Race Track; and,
WHEREAS, during his forty year career of racing, Johnny
LONGDEN established a world record of having won 6,032 races; and,
WHEREAS, Johnny Longden established world records at five
different distances of horse racing, and is one of the world's few

jockeys to have won the Triple Crown; and,
WHEREAS, Johnny Longden has been a resident of the City
of Arcadia for twenty-eight years; and,
WHEREAS, throughout his racing career Johnny Longden has
not only been a credit to his own profession but to horse racing
generally and has brought credit and renown to the city of his resi-
dence;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA,
CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE that the congratulations of this City
Council and of the people they represent be extended to jockey Johnny
Longden upon his retirement from the racing of horses and does fur-
ther extend to Johnny Longden the sincere best wishes of this com-
munity upon his future endeavors, and express the desire that he
continue to favor this City with his presence.
The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia held
on the 19th
day of
April
, 1966, by the affirmative
vote of at least three Councilmen, to wit:
AYES: Councilmen Arth, Butterworth, Considine, Hage
and Forman
