HomeMy WebLinkAbout3869 RESOLUTION NO. 3869 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, ENDORSING AND URGING SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION W ON THE JUNE, 1966 BALLOT. WHEREAS, Proposition W, the $850,000,000 Water Bond issue to distribute Northern California water in the Southland, will appear on the June, 1966 ballot; and WHEREAS, this measure, sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, provides for the con- struction of a huge new tunnel and pipeline system to bring 2,000,000 acre-feet of water annually to the six-county District; and WHEREAS, the District's population of 9,800,000 people is expected to nearly double within 25 years; and WHEREAS, the Water Bonds will provide for our basic water needs until at least 1990; and WHEREAS, the bonds will accomplish this without any appreciable effect on our tax rate; and WHEREAS, the alternative to passage of the bond measure-- a substantial increase in the tax rate--would be catastrophic to the overburdened taxpayer; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE that Proposition W be supported as vital to every Southland resident, and that every citizen within the Metropolitan Water District be urged to vote YES on this urgent measure.
