RESOLUTION NO. 3869
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA,
ENDORSING AND URGING SUPPORT OF
PROPOSITION W ON THE JUNE, 1966
BALLOT.
WHEREAS, Proposition W, the $850,000,000 Water Bond
issue to distribute Northern California water in the Southland,
will appear on the June, 1966 ballot; and
WHEREAS, this measure, sponsored by the Metropolitan
Water District of Southern California, provides for the con-
struction of a huge new tunnel and pipeline system to bring
2,000,000 acre-feet of water annually to the six-county District;
and
WHEREAS, the District's population of 9,800,000 people
is expected to nearly double within 25 years; and
WHEREAS, the Water Bonds will provide for our basic
water needs until at least 1990; and
WHEREAS, the bonds will accomplish this without any
appreciable effect on our tax rate; and
WHEREAS, the alternative to passage of the bond measure--
a substantial increase in the tax rate--would be catastrophic to
the overburdened taxpayer;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA,
CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE that Proposition W be supported as
vital to every Southland resident, and that every citizen within
the Metropolitan Water District be urged to vote YES on this urgent
measure.
The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution.
