HomeMy WebLinkAbout3822 RESOLUTION NO. 3822 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, ENDORSING THE POSITION OF THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA RAPID TRANSIT DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS URGING ACQUISITION OF SUFFICIENT RIGHTS-OF-WAY FOR NEW FREEWAYS TO PERMIT INSTALLATION OF RAPID TRANSIT FACILITIES THEREON. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1, That a mass transit system is urgently needed in the immediate future to help solve the ever increasing congestion of freeways. That the mere construction of additional freeways will not of itself alleviate such congestion; to the contrary the construc- tion of additional freeways serves only to open up additional sources of vehicular traffic for use of the freeway system thereby resulting in still further freeway congestion. SECTION 2. That on September 1, 1965 the Board of Directors of the Southern California Rapid Transit District adopted a Resolution wherein it recited in part that said District urges the Federal and State Programs for new freeways to give meaning to the stated objec- tives of development of efficient and comprehensive transportation systems in metropolitan areas by acquisition of sufficient rights-of- way for new freeways to permit installation of rapid transit facilities in appropriate freeway routes. SECTION 3. That the City Council of the City of Arcadia does hereby endorse the statements contained in said Resolution adop- ted September 1, 1965 and does specifically urge all public agencies -1- 3822 # involved to further the development of efficient and comprehensive transportation systems in metropolitan areas by the acquisition of sufficient rights-of-way for new freeways to permit installation of rapid transit facilities in appropriate freeway routes, SECTION 4, The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and shall cause certified copies hereof to be forwarded to the Honorable Thomas H, Kuchel and the Honorable George Murphy, United States Senators, to Glenard P. Lipscomb, Congressman representing the 24th District, to State Senator Thomas M. Rees, to State Assemblymen Houston I. Flournoy and John E. Collier, to Supervisor Frank H, Bonelli, and to the Southern California Rapid Transit District, I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia held on the 21st day of September , 1965, by the affirmative vote of at least three Councilmen, to wit: AYES: .Councilmen Considine, Forman, Turner and Reibold NOES: None ABSENT: Councilman SIGNED AND APPROVED of September ~~~~or City Clerk (SEAL) -2- 3822 / I
