RESOLUTION NO. 3822
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA,
ENDORSING THE POSITION OF THE SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA RAPID TRANSIT DISTRICT
BOARD OF DIRECTORS URGING ACQUISITION
OF SUFFICIENT RIGHTS-OF-WAY FOR NEW
FREEWAYS TO PERMIT INSTALLATION OF
RAPID TRANSIT FACILITIES THEREON.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1, That a mass transit system is urgently needed
in the immediate future to help solve the ever increasing congestion
of freeways. That the mere construction of additional freeways will
not of itself alleviate such congestion; to the contrary the construc-
tion of additional freeways serves only to open up additional sources
of vehicular traffic for use of the freeway system thereby resulting
in still further freeway congestion.
SECTION 2. That on September 1, 1965 the Board of Directors
of the Southern California Rapid Transit District adopted a Resolution
wherein it recited in part that said District urges the Federal and
State Programs for new freeways to give meaning to the stated objec-
tives of development of efficient and comprehensive transportation
systems in metropolitan areas by acquisition of sufficient rights-of-
way for new freeways to permit installation of rapid transit facilities
in appropriate freeway routes.
SECTION 3. That the City Council of the City of Arcadia
does hereby endorse the statements contained in said Resolution adop-
ted September 1, 1965 and does specifically urge all public agencies
