RESOLUTION NO. 3664
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA,
SUPPORTING THE POSITION OF THE
METROPOLITAN WATER DISTRICT WITH
RESPECT TO AND OPPOSING THE MODIFIED
PACIFIC SOUTHWEST PLAN OF THE
SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES
HEREBY DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That this City Council is vitally interested in
the water supply of this community and of Southern California generally.
That this City recently became a part of the Upper San Gabriel Valley
Municipal Water District and said Water District more recently joined
the Metropolitan Water District, thereby committing and obligating
itself to a multi-million dollar payment to the Metropolitan Water
District as its cost for joining said District in order to receive its
proportionate share of the more than one-half billion dollars that has
been expended to provide facilities for the transporting of water from
the Colorado River to Southern California.
SECTION 2. That the Modified Pacific Southwest Plan proposed
by Secretary of the Interior Udall would result in the abandonment of
the Colorado River Aqueduct of the Metropolitan Water District, and
fails to recognize and preserve the rights of existing water projects
in the State of California to priorities to the annual consumptive use
of 4,4 million acre feet of water from the Colorado River.
SECTION 3, That this City Counci~ does therefore oppose the
Modified Pacific Southwest Water Plan as presently proposed by Secretary
of the Interior Udall and does hereby endorse and support the position
of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Water District of
Southern California officially declared by it on March 17, 1964, with
respect to Secretary of the Interior Udall's Modified Pacific Southwest
Water Plan.
