A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY' OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA,
'AHENDING SECTION 3 OF .RESOLUTION NO.
3498 BY CHANGING THE SALARY SCHEDULE
OF CERTAIN EMPLOYEES; CREATING. WITHIN
THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS FIVE
POSITIONS OF MAINTENANCE MAN II IN
THE CLASSIFIED SERVICE OF THE CITY OF
ARCADIA AND SPECI'FYING THE
QUALIFICATIONS'THEREFOR AND THE
DUTIES THEREOF; AOOLISHING FIVE
POSITIONS OF MAINTENANCE MAN; AND
AMENDING THE SPECIFICATIONS AND
QUALIFICATIONS FOR MAINTENANCE MAN
IN SAID DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA,
DOES DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That upon further review and consideration
of the salary survey recently made by the City Manager at the re-
quest of the City Council, it has been determined that certain in-
equities exist in the salaries assigned by Resolution No. 3498
adopted July 3, 1962. That for this reason, upon the recommenda-
tions .of the City Manager and the Personnel Board of the City of
Arcadia, Section] of Resolution No. 3498 is hereby amended as fol-
lows:
a. That schedu1e No. 228 presently assigned to the ~osi-
tion of Building J.laintenance Foreman shall be changed to schedule
No. 430-A.
b. That schedule No. 322 presently assigned to the posi-

tion of Engineering Draftsman shall be changed to schedule No. 324.
c. That schedule No. 322 presently assigned to the posi~
tion of Planning Draftsman shall be changed to schedule. No. 324.
d. . That schedule No. 116 'presently assigned to the posi-
tion'of Custodian shall be changed to schedule No. 117.
SECTION 2. That the changes set forth in Section 1

hereinabove shall become effective as of S~ptember 2, 1962, the be-
ginning of the first pay period in September.
SECTION 3. That the~e was no intention in the recent
change in salary schedules that the salary of, any city employee
should be so changed as to deprive the employee of any raise which
was due him. That the changes effected by Resolution No. 3498 did
adversely affect the salaries of three employees. That upon the
recommendations of the City Manager and the. Personnel Board the
monthly salaries of the' followin~ three positions are hereby
changed to the respective amounts set opposite each name and
classification to be effective on the dates specified for each:
Joseph Hicks Equipment Mechanic $550.00 11-1-62
Michael De Orio Maintenance Man $451.00 12-4-62
Richard Manni Maintenance Man $451.00 9-2-62
SECTION 4. That there is hereby created within the De-
partment of Publi'J Works five positions of Maintenance Man II
within the classified service of the City employ, and~alary sched-
ule N9. 221 is hereby assignee thereto. The duties of such posi-
tion shall be to perform skilled work in concrete construction, as-
phalt paving, acetylene and arc welding and' metal repair; to
operate and maintain a chipper, power mower and other tools for
planting and maintaining lawns, and other street equipment' and
tools; to supervise a small crew; and to perform related work as
assigned. The qualifications therefor shall be a thorough knowl-
edge of and ability to perform cement finishing, welding, asphalt
raking and other skilled tasks and to operate and maintain a vari-
ety of equipment used in street and tree work; graduation frol!!
twelfth grade and two years of recent experience in street or con-
struction work, or some combination of education and experience of
equal value; and a valid State of California Class "D" driver's
license.

SECTION 5. That concurrent with the filling of each
position of Maintenance Man II created by the preceding section,
one position of Maintenance Man heretofore established and exist-
ing within the Department of Public Works shall be abolished.
SECTION 6. That the duties and qualifications for
Maintenance Man within the Department of Public Works in the
classified service of the City employ are hereby amended to read
as follows:
The duties of such position shall be to perform semi-
skilled work in the repair of macadam, asphalt and concrete
streets, inthe construction and repair of forms for curbs, gutters,
sidewalks, draina~e and similar structures, and the pouring of con-
cretej to mainta:l.n and repair sewerSj to paint street lines, cross-
walks, signs and similar itemsj to plant, trim and. remove trees,
flowers' and shrubs and perform lawn work; to operate and perform
,minor maintenance on light trucks, skip loaders and other tools of
the trade; to dig ditches and lift heavy weights and perform a vari-
ety of manual labor tasks; to assist a journeyman in the performance
of his dutiesj and to perform other related duties as required.
The qualifications therefor shall be a knowledge of street .construc-
tion and maintenance, tree planting, trimming and maintenance,
sewer work and street painting and of the tools of the tradej
graduation from twelfth grade and one year of recent experience in
street or construction work; or some combination of education and
experience of equal value; and a valid State of California Class
"D" driver's license.
SECTION 7. The City Cler~ shall certify to the adoption
of this Resolution.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution' was
adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
