RESOLUTION NO. 3291
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
.THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA,
GRANTING A VARIANCE TO ALLOW A
DWELLING TO BE MOVED ON TO THE REAR
OF'THE PROPERTY AT 330 WEST HUNTINGTON
,
PLACE AND CONVERTING IT INTO A SCHOOL
LIBRARY AND REMEDIAL READING ROOM.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES
HEREBY DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That there was filed with the City Planning
Commission on July 1, 1960, the application of The Roman Catholic
Archbishop of Los Angeles, a corporation sole, signed by Msgr.
Gerald M. O'Keef~, for a variance to allow the removal of a dwell-
ing, presently located at 924 Holly Avenue, to the rear of the
property at 330 West Huntington Place in the City of Arcadia,
County of Los ~geles, State of California, described as follows:
The westerly 90 feet of Lot 43, Tract No. 11969,
as shown on map recorded in Book 259, pages 36
and 37, of Maps, records of said County; and
that portion of Lot 4, Tract No. 2409, as shown
on map recorded in Book 23, page 53, of Maps,
adjoining on the north~
That after notice as required by Ordinance No. 760 of the City of
Arcadia, as amended, a public hearing was duly held by and before
said Commission on JUly 12, 1960, at which time all interested per-
sons were given a full opportunity to be heard and to present evi-
dence. That on July 26, 1960 said Commission adopted its certain
Resolution No. 378 wherein and whereby it recommended the granting
of the requested variance.
SECTION 2. That there were no protests to the granting
of the requested variance. ThatL.a similar request for the use of
the building as a library at its present location was granted by
the Council on March 1, 1960 by Resolution No. 3226. That because
of the dedication of a portion of the lot, where the building is
now located, for street purposes to 'insure the development of

landlocked property to the east, the balance of the lot is needed
for playground and parking purposes. That the location of the
library nearer the school buildings will be a more efficient use
thereof.
SECTION 3;; That the use of subject property for a paro-
chial school and related facilities constitutes exceptional condi-
tions not applicable to property generally in the vicinity; that
the need of a library consistent with the expansion of the school
creates the necessity for the requested variance to preserve sub-
stantial property rights of the applicant. That inasmuch as a
variance was granted for the establishment of the school over ten
years ago, and for the use of the building as a library on March 1
of this year, the granting of this variance will not be materially
detrimental to the health or welfare or injurious to property or
improvements in the same zone or vicinity where it is located.
That it will not adversely affect the comprehensive general plan
but rather will be beneficial in that it will permit access to a
public street from certain landlocked property presently undeveloped
because of its inaccessibility.
SECTION 4. That for the foregoing reasons a variance is
hereby granted to allow the dwelling presently located at 924
Holly Avenue to be moved to the rear of..the property at 330 West
Huntington Place and to permit it to be converted into a school
library and remedial reading room.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution.
