RESOLUTION NO. 3297
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA,
GRANTING A ZONE VARIANCE TO ALLOW
THE OPERATION OF A DAY CARE PROGRAM
FOR CHILDREN AT 12 and 16 WEST HUNT-
INGTON PLACE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES
HEREBY DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

Commission o~j:ugi.i8't 8, 1960, the application of the Arcadia Publish-
ing Co., as purchaser, signed by F. Harold Roach, President, for a
zone variance to permit the operation of a day care program for chil-
dren on property located at 12 and 16 West Huntington Place in the
City of Arcadia, County of Los Angeles, State of California, described
as.follows:
The west 100 feet of the east 260 feet of the
north 225 feet, exclusive of street, .of Lot 3,
Tract No. 950, as shown on map recorded in
Book 17, page 25, of Maps, records of said
County.' ..
That after notice as required by Ordinanqe No..760 ,of said City, as
amended, a public hearing was duly held on the matter by and before
said City Planning Commission on August 23, 1960, at which time all
interested persons were given a full opportunity to be heard and to
present evidence. That on August 23, 1960, said City Planning Com-
mission adopted its certain Resolution No. 385 wherein and whereby
it recommended the granting of the requested variance.
SECTION 2. That subject property is presently zoned R-3
with two apartment buildings originally built in 1946. That adjacent
property to the east and south of subject property is zoned C-2 and
developed for commercial uses. That the athletic field of the Arcadia

High School adjoins subject property on the west and the golf course
of the Arcadia County Park is located 'north of subject property.
SECTION'3. That the development of surrounding property
to commercial uses on two sides, the location of the high school
athletic field on a third side and the golf course on the fourth,
and the fact that subject property is the only parcel in the entire
large block zoned R,.-3,.' cori:8titute exceptional circumstances not

usually applicable to property zoned R-3 and the requested variance
is necessary f9r the preservation and enjoyment of substantial pro-
perty rights possessed by other property in the same zone and vicin-
ity. That the variance requested will not be detrimental to the
public health or welfare, will not be inconsistent with good planning
practice nor will it be injurious to property in the immediate neigh-
borhood.
SECTION 4. That for the foregoing reasons a variance is
hereby granted to permit the use'of the property hereinabove de-
scribed for a day care program for children.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolution.
I HEREB1 CERTIFY th~t the foregoing Resolution was adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia, on
the 6th day of September, 1960, by the affirmative vote of at least
three Councilmen, to wit:
