HomeMy WebLinkAbout4060 RESOLUTION NO, 4060 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA CONGRATULATING THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY. WHEREAS March, 1969, marks the beginning of the 50th Anniversary Celebration Year of the League of Women Voters of the United States; and ' . ' WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters was founded in 1920 for the purpose of promoting good government and to help 20 million newly-enfranchised women voters to carry out their new responsibilities, and has in fact assisted men and women voters alike; and WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Arcadia was established in 1956 to these same ends; and , WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Arcadia has provided non-partisan information on candidates and ballot issues prior to elections, has encouraged registration and informed voting, and has helped and encouraged responsible citizenship; and WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Arcadia, while non-partisan in relation to candidates and political parties, has studied and acted upon many issues of government in the public interest; and WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Arcadia ,has strengthened city government by encouraging interest in government; by observing government meetings and encouraging others to do so; by publishing "This is Arcadia'," a reference on the government of Arcadia; by publishing a guide to health facilities in the area; by stimulating citizen interest and encouraging official action on a General Plan for Arcadia; by supporting adequate funding of Arcadia schools; by informing citizens about and supporting revision of the Arcadia City Charter, and by many diverse other constructive activities; now BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Arcadia that the City of Arcadia hereby congratulates the League of Women Voters of the United States and the League of Women Voters of ' Arcadia for their promotion of informed and active participation of all citizens in government; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the President of the League of Women Voters of the United States, Mrs, Br,uce B, Benson, 1200 17th Street, N. W., Washington, D, C., and to the President of the League of Women Voters of Arcadia, Mrs, Arthur Starr, 1502 So, Second Avenue, Arcadia, California, -1- 4060 I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia held on the Is t day of April , 1969, by the affirma ti ve vo te of at least three Councilmen, ,to wit: AYES: Councilmen Arth, Butterworth, Considine, Helms and Hage NOES: None ABSENT: None SIGNED AND APPROVED this 1st day of April , 1969.
