The completed form should be submitted to the City Clerk/Agency Secretary prior to the start of the 7:00 p.m. Open Session. In order to conduct a timely meeting, there will be a fve (5) minute time limit per person. All comments are to be directed to the City Council/Redevelopment Agency and we ask that proper decorum be practiced during the meeting. State law prohibits the City Council/Redevelopment Agency from discussing topics or issues unless they appear on the posted Agenda. CITY CLERK'S REPORT a. Any writings or documents provided to a majorily of the City Council regarding any item on this agenda will be.made available for public inspection in the City Clerk's oKce located at 24o W Huntington Drive, Arcadia, California, during normal business hours. Remarks and Introductions by remaining City Council Members and the City Clerk ADJOURNMENT The City Council/Redevelopment Agency will adjourn to a continued regular meeting to Friday, April 18, 2008, 3:00 p.m. at the job trailer located at 233 South Brand Boulevard in Glendale in order to have a tour of the Americana on Brand. Project. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, California, during normal business hours. ,:<r STAFF REPORT Office of the City Clerk DATE: April 15, 2008 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members FROM: James Barrows, City Clerk Lisa Mussenden, Chief Deputy City Clerk/Records Manager SUBJECT: Resolution No. 6622 reciting the fact of the General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, declaring the results and such other matters as provided by law Recommendation: Adopt SUMMARY: On April 8, 2008, the City of Arcadia conducted a General Municipal Election. As a result of that election, the Chief Deputy City Clerk has canvassed the returns and certified the results of said election as reflected in the attached Resolution. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council adopt Resolution No. 6622 reciting the fact of the General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, declaring the results and such other matters as provided bylaw. APPROVED: Donald Penman City Manager Attachment -Resolution No. 6622 RESOLUTION NO. 6622 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON APRIL 8, 2008, DECLARING THE RESULTS THEREOF AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS PROVIDED BY LAW WHEREAS, a General Municipal Election was held and conducted in the City of Arcadia, California, on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, as required by taw; and WHEREAS, notice of the election was given in time, form and manner as provided by law; voting precincts were properly established; election officers were appointed and in all respects the election was held and conducted and the votes were cast, received and canvassed and the returns made and declared in time; form and manner as required by the provisions of the Elections Code of the State of California for the holding of elections in charter cities; and WHEREAS, the City Cleric canvassed the returns of the election and has certified the results to this City Council, and the results are received, attached and made a part hereof as "Exhibit A". NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The whole number of ballots cast in the precincts, except vote by mail ballots and provisional ballots, was 1,327. 1 That the whole number of vote by mail ballots cast in the City was 3,088, and the whole number ofprovisional ballots cast in the City was 37, making a total of 4,452 ballots cast in the City. SECTION 2: The names of persons voted for at the election for Member of the City Council are as follows: ROGER CHANDLER GEORGE LEUNG-CHU YOUNG GARY A. KOVACIC And the name of the person voted for at the election for City Clerk is as follows: JAMES H. BARROWS SECTION 3. The number of votes given at each precinct and the number of votes given in the City to each of the persons above named for the respective offices for which the persons were candidates and are listed in Exhibit "A" attached. SECTION 4. The City Council declares and determines that: Roger Chandler was elected as Member of the City Council for the full term of four (4) years and Gary A. Kovacic was elected as Member of the City Council for the full term of four (4) years; and James H. Barrows was elected as the City Clerk for the full term of four (4) years. 2 SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall enter on the records of the City Council of the City, a statement of the result of the election, showing: (1) the whole number of ballots cast in the City; (2) the names of the persons voted for; (3) for what office each person was voted for; (4) the number of votes given at each precinct to each person; (5) the total number of votes given to each person. SECTION 6. The Ciry Clerk shall immediately make and deliver to each of the persons so elected a Certificate of Election signed by the Ciry Clerk and authenticated; and the City Clerk shall administer to each person elected the Oath of Office prescribed in the Constitution of the State of California and shall have them subscribe to it and file it in the office of the City Clerk. Each and all of the persons so elected shall then be inducted into the respective office to which they have been elected. SECTION 7. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
