HomeMy WebLinkAboutMAY 22,1968 I I ROLL CALL 18:7262 MINUTES CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA BUDGET SESSION MAY 22, 1968 The City Council met in called session on May 22, 1968, at 7:30 P.M. in the Conference Room, Arcadia City Hall. PRESENT: Councilmen Arth, Butterworth, Helms, Considine, Hage and Wayne Harris, City Controller. ABSENT: None Review of the proposed Police Budget continued. The number of police vehicles was questioned and the city manager commented that thought is being given to leasing arrangements. Account No. 35, Automotive Service, was reduced from $11,000 to $8,000. Account No. 71, Automotive Equipment, was reduced to $31,555. Handling of riots and the training therefor was discussed as were all items under Accounts No. 74 and 75. Fire Department Budget. Brief discussion held on the possibility of the cost of constructing a new fire station on Live Oak Avenue. At this time capital improvement projects were reviewed. Reflected therein was the recommendation for the purchase of the new pumper at a cost of $38,000. During this departmental discussion, the City Manager explained the contingency appropriation reflected in each departmental budget and explained the stability pay for the benefit of the council. Civil Defense. Budget increased to $875. primarily for supplies and service. It was the consensus of the City Council that the Civil Defense Citizens Board should be recognized and made an integral part of city activities. Once the board has been brought up to its full complement the members will be taken to a dinner with the City Council and the city's position on Civil Defense will be made clear at that time. It was thought that there is much that could be accomplished in this direction for the benefit of the community, i. e., dissemination of available material. Building Budget Reviewed. Under Supplies and Services in the street budget account no. 21, street name signs was reduced to $2,250, account no. 48 street numbering system was removed entirely. ($4500). Extensive discussion held on the need of a passenger car for the Superintendent of General Services. A pickup is now assigned to this employee. Cars assigned to other departmental employees was also explored. Considerable discussion held on: Overtime pay in the street department Maintenance of all city parks Vehicle assignments to various employees.
