HomeMy WebLinkAboutJUNE 24,1965 I CITY YARD CITY FILM REGISTRATIONS ( voting) ZONING MAPS UPDATED I PROPOSED ANNEXATION LAND PURCHASE MINUTES CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA STUDY SESSION JUNE 24, 1965 The City Council of the City of Arcadia met in study session in the Conference Room of the City Hall at 7:30 P.M., June 24, 1965 PRESENT : ABSENT: Councilmen Balser, Considine, Forman, Turner, Reibold None OTHERS PRESENT: City Clerk Van Maanen, Press Reporter Wm. DeMuth, Administrative Assistant McDaniel Richard Weimer, architect for the City Corporation Yard facilities, presented and outlined the plans for the proposed construction. Shop buildings, lighting, wiring, etc. were explored at length, as well as the preliminary estimated costs. The City Council expressed satisfaction with the plans thus far. Wendell Bradbury, Arcadia Tribune reporter, photographer and film editor in connection with the film strip which the City has had prepared annually depicting the mechanics of various departments and areas of the City. The film is shown during the year to groups, clubs and organizations. The City Council expressed satisfaction with the film. The City Clerk asked that the script connected therewith be made factual by changing her terms of office from two to three. Discussion held on the report made by the Fire Chief concerning the practicability of having firemen trained to register persons to vote. Councilman Forman, representing the City at the League of California Cities' meetings, will inform the League that the City does not oppose the idea, but will await the outcome of the study being made by other Los Angeles County cities. The City Clerk advised that the local League of Women Voters will support the proposal which was originally made by the Los Angeles County League of Women Voters. Discussion held on the need for the zoning maps to be brought up to date reflecting the present status of land zoned by zone changes, variances and conditional use permits. Ways and means of accomplishing this discussed. The City Manager will present a report for Council action at the regular meeting to be held July 6, 1965. It was noted that the annexation study concerning the area west of Michillinda between Huntington Drive and Foothill Boulevard was progressing. Discussion held on the City Manager's recommendation that the City acquire Lots 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 of Block 76, Santa Anita Tract, (southeast corner of Santa Clara and Santa Anita) currently occupied by a iaundry, for $187,000, using the funds received from the Elrovia Company in its purchase of city owned land located on Duarte Road. The laundry would remain in the building until January 15, 1966. Discussion held on what, if any, utilization could be made of the building on the subject site. 1. 6-24-65 BROKER'S COMMISSIONS I I The City Manager recommended that the City withhold rece~v~ng bids on the construction of the corporation yard until after the purchase of this property, which would be through a real estate broker representing the Model Laundry Company. Matter will be placed on agenda for July 6, 1965. Discussion held on the establishment of some definite guide in the payment of broker's fees, with the City Council favoring same. The City Manager will check into this, and ascertain what other cities are doing in this regard. Mayor Reibold announced that an executive meeting would be held and adjourned the open meeting at 9:10 P.M. whereupon the City Clerk took her leave. ~~~~ City Clerk ~ 2. 6-24-65
