ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING

Pursuant to the order of adjournment of the regular meeting of the City
Council of April 2, 1963, the City Council of the City of Arcadia met
in adjourned regular session at' the Arcadia Public Library at 8:00 A.M.,
April 6, 1963.

The meeting convened at 8:45.A~M~, Mayor Pro Tempore Phillips presiding.

Mayor Pro Tempore Phillips expressed appreciation on behalf of the
Council for the courtesy ext~nded by the Library Board,members.
Mayor Pro Tempore Phillips ~then'opened the meeting on the: first
consideration of the 1963-64 budget as presented by the Library Board.
The Librarian projected various charts on the visual screen depicting
growth patterns in connection with services the Library provides,
number;of persons serviced during a given period of time"statistics
reflecting usage of the Art:and'Lecture Room and its maintenance cost,
telephone inquiries, etc. , ' , I,' .

The City Manager read his communication incorporating recommendations
pertaining to the budget. The 'budget as presented by the Library Board
called for a total expenditure of $255,367.72. The City Manager's budget
recommended a budget of $24i,669~72. .

Extensive discussion was held covering the following areas:

Best possible personnel'usage.
Acquisition of additional material (books, etc.).
.. Maintenance cost, including possibility of this item ~eing
included in the overall City General Account.

Discussion was also held on the possibility of presenting ,to the
electorate an amendment to Section 11061 of the Arcadia City Charter,
which currently provides for a 20C levy for the operation of the Library.
