The City Attorney advised that it may be necessary to hold an additional
meeting the latter part of September in connection with the proposed
annexation of property on the south side of Live Oak Avenue between
El Monte Avenue and the Santa Anita Wash, and suggested that the
members of the Council advise the City Manager of the dates they
will be free. He added that it WDuld be advisable for the Council
to hold its hearing on the zoning prior to the time of hearing of
protests to the annexation proper, as there might be those who would
want to exercise the right of protest if a determination of the
zoning is not made prior to that time.
The City Manager reported on the present status of the Marketowne
building which had been gutted by fire the latter part of July,
1959, stating that although the owners of the property had
promised that necessary demolition work would be performed, such
work had not yet been completed and that the building is presently
a menace to public health and safety, and recommended that the
Council authorize the City to call for bids for the removal of
said building and debris.

After an explanation of the Building Code in this connection,
Councilman Phillips moved that the Council authorize the Building
Department to proceed with the necessary demoliton on such terms
and conditions as they deem appropriate and to issue such
complaints as in their opinion are necessary to insure compliance
with the provisions of the Uniform Building Code. Councilman
Balser seconded the motion and it was carried on roll call vote
as follows:
AYES: Councilmen Balser, Jacobi, Phillips, Reibold
NOES: None
ABSENT: Councilman Camphouse
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 P.M.
