Public Hearing scheduled for June 7, 1988 for the following:
KOALA
Petition for street lights - Le Roy Avenue from Santa Anita Avenue to
El Monte Avenue.
BANDvlCounci1member Lojeski, referring to his memo to the Council, stating the
Koala Band from Australia will be coming to Arcadia in July of 1989 rather
than 1988 ... Council should place that date on their calendars.

SISTER CITY
COMMISSION
RECEPTION
FOR
LOU DODD
Also, in reference to his memo, Councilmember Lojeski related that the
reception will be this June for Lou Dodd, Arcadia High School teacher. He
is leaving for Australia in July and is quite excited to be the teacher
selected for this honor. In reference to the pins and the American and
Australian flags mentioned in the memo, Councilmember Gilb stated he has
already given those items and perhaps Lou Dodd would not want to take them
with him. Counci1member Lojeski commented that either Lou Dodd or the Sister
City Commission Chair, Marie Schmitt, may request a proclamation also --
there is still plenty of time before this is needed. Lou also requested a
City flag to present to the school in Australia, if Council agrees. Counci1-
member Gi1b thought the City flag was a good idea. Since Barbara Sae1id is
in charge of arranging the reception for Lou, perhaps we could communicate
with her on the flag situation.

A brief discussion ensued relating to a letter received by Council from
a resident who had received a notice from Code Enforcement for poor property
maintenance after the resident had requested that Code Enforcement come to
her property and look into another situation taking place on the property.
Mayor Harbicht has requested a report on this matter ... he will send a
letter of explanation to the resident.
~ Council discussed the iron grates installed on various business establish-
ments throughout the City. This subject has been discussed by Council in
the past ... no action had been taken. It was suggested that this issue
be taken up again, for the commercial buildings only, before iron bars go up
on the outside of commercial buildings allover the City. It was also put
forth that this matter be placed on the agenda for a possible ordinance
outlining what is or is not acceptable. The City Manager suggested drafting
a proposed ordinance which would prohibit grating on the oust ide of
commercial buildings and present it at the next council meeting for Council
consideration. The City Attorney suggested, also, that a lot of material
has already been prepared on this subject and it could be brought back before
Council at that time. This was agreeable to all.
