PRESENT: Counci1members Gi1b, Lojeski, Pellegrino, Young ABSENT: Mayor Hannah On MOTION BY Counci1member Gi1b, seconded by Counci1member Lojeski and carried Mayor Hannah was excused. Mayor Pro Tempore Pellegrino presided. Explored. An item relating to the intersection of Orange Grove and San Carlos Road, which was originally brought up by Mayor Hannah, was postponed until June 19. The Reverend Dr. Paul G. Johenk will be retiring from his 25 years of ministry at the Methodist Hospital. It was MOVED by Council- member Gilb, seconded by Counci1member Young and carried unanimously that a plaque and certificate be prepared for presentation to Rev. Johenk. Council received the communication and a copy of the response to William J. Peters concerning the landing of small jet aircraft at the El Monte Airport. Staff advised that the Assistant Manager of the Airport said that such landings are very infrequent but occasionally are necessary due to weather conditions. Mr. Peters has been so advised/and that there is little possibility for an increase in this jet air traffic as the facility is operating at capacity at the present time. Staff advised of an invitation from the El Monte-South E1 Mbnte Chamber/Commerce to participate in an air tour June 22, 1984. Acknowledged receipt of a Service Resume from William Kuyper ex- pressing interest in serving the City in some capacity. Invitation from Group W Cable to attend a reception on,June 11 at which ,they will announce their new Home Theatre Network. The request of the Community Hotline for financial assistance will be reviewed at budget time. . It was MOVED by Counci1member Gi1b, seconded by Counci1member Lojeski and carried on roll call vote 'as follows that $3,000 be included in the ensuing Revenue Sharing Budget for Parent Alert. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Counci1members Gi1b, Lojeski, Young, Pellegrino None Mayor Hannah Council was advised on the forthcoming joint meeting with Los Angeles and Oranoe Counties of the RTD and City Selection Committees. Those who can attend will advise the City Manager's office. Councilmember Gilb explained the status of a member of the Youth Commission, Kathleen Parrot, who was elected by the First Avenue Junior High School. Katie lives outside the city limits and Mr. Gilb felt 'an exception should be made in this instance inasmuch as no one was aware of the provision that a Commissioner should reside in the city. It was MOVED by Councilmember Gilb, seconded by Councilmember Lojeski and carried on roll call vote as follows that Kathleen Parrot be allowed to complete her term to which she was elected. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Councilmembers Gilb, Lojeski, Young, Pellegrino None Mayor Hannah 1 The City Attorney will prepare an amended resolution setting forth the Council's intent as far as the Youth Commission' is concerned. Discussion held on the responsibility of waiving the business license fee in connection with local charitable organizations, etc. This was considered at the last council meeting at which it was determined that it would be the responsibility of the'City Council, whereupon it was MOVED by Councilmember Gilb, seconded by Council- member Lojeski and carried on roll call vote as follows that Council reconsider Section 6220.33 Motion Picture License Fee along the lines previously determined, ~nd that the ordinance be amended. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Councilmembers Gilb, Lojeski, Young, Pellegrino None Mayor Hannah CIVIC CENTER Councilmember Young referred to an item on the agenda for the regular PROJECT meeting to convene at 7:30'p.m. this date and asked' about the duties of the architectural consultant for which Request for Proposals for such services is being recommended by staff. Considerable discus- sion was held on priorities, cost, and the like. Staff will proceed with Request for Proposals 'including all available land and the Armory property.
