CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA
and the
ARCADIA REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
OCTOBER 17, 1989
j
The City Council and the Arcadia Redevelopment Agency met in an
Adjourned Regular Meeting at 7:00 p. m., October 17, 1989 in the
Conference Room of the City Hall Council Chambers.
PRESENT:
ABSENT:
Councilmembers Gilb, Harbicht, Young and Chandler
Councilmember Lojeski
On MOTION by Councilmember Gilb, seconded by Councilmember Harbicht
and CARRIED, Councilmember Lojeski was EXCUSED.
The City Manager reported the California Specialized Training Institute
(C.S.T.I.) had conducted a seminar and disaster exercise in Arcadia
October 11 - 13, 1989. Sixty participated from City staff, Methodist
Hospital, Red Cross, Arcadia School District, and Santa Anita Fashion
Park, as well as several amateur radio ham operators from within the
City. In conjunction with the City exercise the hospital also con-
ducted a concurrent exercise with a group of 25 persons. The City and
the hospital were connected by radio. Much was learned from this expe-
rience ... it was felt the training and exercise were worthwhile and
the staff much better prepared to deal with an emergency in the event
Arcadia should experience a major earthquake.
Mayor Chandler requested the City Manager also make this report at the
regular City Council meeting tonight. It was noted that the reporter
from the Arcadia Tribune was present at the exercise taking notes and
photographs ... the item may appear in the Sunday edition of the news-
paper, October 22, 1989.
The photographs of the Mayors of Arcadia, which had been mounted in the
office of former City Clerk, Christine Van Maanen, have been duplicated
and framed and are now on display in the main hallway of the City Hall.
The City Council entered a CLOSED SESSION, RECONVENED and ADJOURNED
sine die at 7:30 p.m.
