FIREWORKS Ed Newman, Chairman of the Arcadia American Legion Post Fireworks' Pro- gram, explored the past 46 years of conducting the sale of fireworks in the City and hoped Council would continue to approve the sale. He re- cited the reasons for the discontinuance of the fireworks display on the evening of July 4 - that it was hoped it would ease the traffic conges- tion and cleanup on the part of the City. During this consideration Past Post Commander Park Webster explored the many contributions and projects provided for various City departments. Chuck Bostock, Past Commander, continued this explanation and said in part that the continuation of the program would allow the City to con- trol the sale of safe and sane fireworks by placing its trust in the organization. Mayor Gilb reminded everyone that a public hearing is to be held on this matter October 6 and commented that whatever is done by the City may be preempted by the State. During this interim Mr. Newman said he would check with cities which have banned the fireworks to ascertain the impact on fire problems on the 4th of July.
