FROM: Dominic La=aretto, City Manager'
Prepared by: Lisa Mussenden, Chief Deputy City Clerk/Records Manager
SUBJECT: CANCELLATION OF THE JANUARY 1, 2013, REGULAR CITY
COUNCIL /SUCCESSOR AGENCY TO THE ARCADIA
REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY MEETING.
Recommendation: Approve
SUMMARY
Because the first meeting in January falls on the New Year's holiday, it is proposed that
the January 1, 2013, regular City Council /Successor Agency to the Arcadia
Redevelopment Agency meeting be cancelled.
DISCUSSION
In recent years, the City Council has cancelled the second meeting in December in
recognition of it being a slow time and to allow the Council Members and staff time to
get away for the holidays. This year the third Tuesday in December is relatively early
(December 18) and the first regularly scheduled City Council meeting in January falls on
New Year's Day. City Charter Section 407 states that "the Council shall hold regular
meetings at least twice each month at such times as it shall be fixed by ordinance or
resolution. At any time a regular meetings falls on a holiday, such meeting shall be held
on the day designated by motion of the City Council." Because the first meeting of
January 2013 falls on the New Year's Day holiday and there are no significant items
scheduled for that meeting date, it is proposed that the first meeting of January be
cancelled and the second meeting of December be held. Should a necessity arise, a
special meeting could be conducted to expedite any item which might require immediate
City Council action during the dark period.
