TO BE REMOVED ELECTION \.' 1984 OLYMPICS Santa Anita 25:0562 MINUTES CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA and the ARCADIA REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 17, 1982 The City Council of the City of Arcadia, California met in an adjourned regular session Tuesday, August 17, 1982 at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room. PRESENT: ABSENT Councilmen Haltom, Lojeski, Pellegrino Councilmen Dring, Hannah It was MOVED by Councilman Lojeski, seconded by Councilman Haltom and carried unanimously that Councilman Hannah be excused. (Mr. Hannah arrived at 8:10 p.m. during the regular meeting.) It was MOVED by Councilman Haltom, seconded by Mayor Pellegrino and carried unanimously that Councilman Dring be excused. It was MOVED by Councilman Lojeski, seconded by Councilman Haltom and carried that a hearing be scheduled for September 7, 1982, for an extension of the moratorium on commercial developments with windows facing R-l pro- perty. (The moratorium enacted by Ordinance No. 1747 expires September 22, 1982.) Staff reminded Council of these two study sessions. Reference was made to the communication from Residents' Association regarding reroofing. at a forthcoming study session. the Rancho Santa Anita Council will discuss this Staff advised that the proponents of annexation of property in County territory (between Temple City and Arcadia) had filed a Notice of Intention to Circulate a Petition. In response to an inquiry from Councilman Haltom, the Fire Chief said in part that owner of the building which has been used for a fire drill at California and Second Avenues is planning to demolish the building in preparation of new construction. Staff advised that a feasibility study is being prepared on the use of propane for the Dial-A-Ride vehicles. Councilman Haltom brought up this item. Staff advised that there are plans now to remove the old building at 616 West Camino Real... this is in response to an inquiry by Councilman Haltom. In response to an inquiry as to the status of a report on consolidating the school and city elections, the City Clerk advised that a report will soon be presented.to Council. Alan Balch, Assistant General Manager of Santa Anita Race Track, referred to the equestrian events which will be held here in 1984. He commended the City Council in establishing an Olympics Commission - that the liaison between the City, the Race Track, and the Los Angeles Olympics Organizing Committee will be extremely important ... the events will be a joint venture arrangement between the Organizing Committee and the Los Angeles Turf Club. It will be the responsibility of the Race Track to provide to -1- 8-17-82 '. CLOSED SESSION 25:0563 the Organizing Committee a table of organization, plan of operation, and a budget to provide the management of the event; however, it is unclear- at this time as to who will have the final say. The Organizing Committee reserves all rights with vending ... souvenier items, music, and the like ... they are restricted by a contract with the International Olympic Committee. They will need all the assistance they can get and look for- ward to solving problems together.
