PRESENT: Councilmen/Members Dring, Haltom, Hannah, Lojeski, Pellegrino ABSENT None Agenda items for the regular meeting to convene at 7:30 p.m. this date were explored and staff responded to questions. Received appeal from Dan Anderson of 943 Kingsley Drive from the denial by the Planning Commission of his application for a Home Occupation Permit. Discussion on this subject, which was scheduled for a public hearing before Council on February 1, included observations made by Councilman Lojeski to the effect that as Liaison to the Commission, he was asked to bring 'this to the attention of Council. The Commission would like to see the appeal process changed by virtually eliminating the Commission in the appeal process. It was agreed that a meeting with the Commission would be helpful and a joint meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, February 2 at 7 p.m. Council received and accepted the invitation from the Principa-l-of the High School to participate in the Jog-a-Thon to be held on February 9 at 6 p.m. between the Board of Education and the City Council. 'This will be a feature event. Staff advised of the need for a heating system to serve certain offices in the City Hall - also the lowering of ceilings in some offices which will reduce heating and cooling costs. It was recommended by Councilman Dring, seconded by Councilman Lojeski and carried on roll call vote as follows that staff be authorized to prepare plans and specifications, as needed, for the lowering of the ceilings in 'certain offices; changing the lighting system, and for the installation of the two new heating/ cooling units for Planning and Building and the Print Shop. Authoriza- tion was also given to advertise for bids. Capital Outlay Fund project. AYES NOES ABSTAIN: ABSENT : Councilmen Dring, Hannah, Lojeski, Pellegrino None Councilman Haltom (due to his profession) None It was MOVED by Councilman Lojeski, seconded by Councilman Hannah and carried on roll call vote as follows that $550 be authorized for the attendance of Planning Commissioner Schaefer Dixon at the League of California Cities 1983 Planning Commissioners Institute March 2 - 4, 1983 in Monterey. AYES NOES ABSENT: Councilmen Dring, Hannah, Lojeski, Pellegrino Councilman Haltom None -1- 1-18-83 PARENT ALERT REQUEST (Budget time) j ~'SENIOR CITIZENS' COMMISSION (Duston) 25:0652 Council received the request of Parent Alert for a ,donation from the City of $3,000 to help defray expenses. It was MOVED by Councilman Dring, seconded by Councilman Lojeski and carried unanimously that this be an item to be considered during the 1983-84 budget delibera- tions. Communication to go forward to Dr. Bell to this effect. It was MOVED by Councilman Dring, seconded by Councilman Hannah and unanimously approved that Leonard A. Duston be appointed to the Senior Citizens' Commission to fill vacancy created by the demise of Richard Gaspari. Term to expire June 30, 1983.
