APOOINThlENI'S TO IDARDS AND/Oln:rmrSSroNS On MJrICl'l by Mayor Lojeski, seconded by Councilman Pellegrino and carried Doris Selmer was appointed to the Library Board for a full four year tenn JulY 1. 1983 to June 30. 1987. This will renlace Don Hage who has served two consecutive four year teIlllS. On !.Ol'ICN by Mayor Lojeski, seconded by Councilman Hal tan and carried Phillip H. Scott was appointed ,to a full four year tenn to the Sister City Camrission. This will replace Rosanary Scott who has served two full four year teIlllS.\ , On I.OI'ION by Councilman Haltan, seconded_by Mayor Lojeski and carried Harold Hedlund was appointed to the Planning Coomission to fill out an unexpired tenn to June 30, 1986. This will re- place John Kirkpatrick who is resigning fran the Coomission due to business camri1nlents. On I.OI'ION by Councilman Pellegrino, seconded by Councilman Hal tan and carried the following reappointments were made. Street full. four year tenn 1987 * * * * * * * * * * * Council reviewed in detail the Consultant I s Safety Survey of both the number of injuries and a safety audit of the work areas. The first part of the report outlined the frequency (mlllDer of injuries) and severity (lost work days) of the entire City and it's three ma- jor departments against the nationally reported average over the previous three years. The second part outlined itans which should be addressed. The findings did not reveal any major problans but did point out various itan" of R ..imilR.l' nR.t.lll'p. R.t P.ach work location. Procedures were reccmnended for implanentation 1] training, 2] op- -, erational procedures and 3] technical assistance. -1- 6-7-83 25: 07358 In order to get a handle on the increasing nunber of injuries, a thorough training procedure program should be .iJ1IPlemented. Costs of itans listed lIDder Operating Procedures, except #6 and #7, could be accanplished in-house. The physical examinations were included in another report of May 11. Cost of flamnable storage cabinets unknown at this time. Cost of training would be about $13,000. Cost of annual survey could be between one and two thousand dollars. The Consultant could be retained on a contract basis or on an hourly rate (currently $45 per oour). Total costs available at this time would be approximately $23,000 the first year. , J Councilman Hal tan sutrni tted for additional consideration the merit of. having an Inspector for sidewalks, protruding sprinkler heads adjacent to sidewalks ... and comnented on the number of claims filed against the City due to such problems. Staff will prepare a report and reccmnendation on this as to costs, etc; also a report concerning vehicle condition authentication. 'I With reference to the reccmnendations in the Safety Survey it was MJVED by Mayor Lojeski, seconded by Councilman Hal tan and carried on roll call vote as follows that staff be authorized to begin ~ planentation of the reccmnendations. therein. It was felt by Council that they should not solicit on Sundays ... they should carry proper identitifcation and Council would like to know what area they will be soliciting. roLICE /FIItE \. Mayor Lojeski suggested that saneone attend a meeting to be held in Pasadena on June 9 at 7:30 p.m. concerning the proposed canpletion of the Freeway through South Pasadena. PRIErn' SITE CLC6ED srnSICN j Mayor Lojeski advised that he has been infonned that the recazrnended five locations for the State Prison will now go to the State for priority listing ... that only two sites will probably be consid8red . .. neither of which is near Arcadia.
