HomeMy WebLinkAboutAUGUST 1,1978 (2) I ROLL CALL DIAMOND JUBILEE EVENT EXECUTIVE SESSION DIAMOND JOB ILEE EVENT I M'~' 23:9600 MINUTES CITY COUNCIL OF 1lIE CITY OF ARCADIA ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 1, 1978 The City Council of the City of Arcadia, California, met adjourned regular session on Tuesday, August 1, 1978 at the City Hall Conference Room. in an 7 p.m. in PRESENT: ABSENT: Councilmen Gilb, Pellegrino, Parry Councilmen Margett, Saelid Councilmen Margett and Saelid were excused on MOTION by Councilman Gilb, seconded by Councilman Pellegrino and carried unanimously. The Chairman of the Diamond Jubilee, James R. Helms, Jr., explained in detail an event which the COllllllittee has approved un a "Symphony under the Stars" by the San Gabriel Valley Symphony Association, which would underwrite the costs of the orchestra and the exposure of costs to the city would be limited to such items as printing, tickets and programs. Most other expenditures would be taken out of the proceeds from the sale of tickets. The net profits would be divisible by three - one third each to the Diamond Jubilee, Arboretum Foundation and the San Gabriel Valley Symphony Association. The City's insurance coverage of the Diamond Jubilee would have to be extended to COver this event. Councilmen Gilb and Pellegrino were in favor of the activity as described, however Mayor Parry would like some guarantee that costs to the City would not exceed a definite amount. Inasmuch as time is of the essence the Council advised Mr. Helms it would act on the matter later this evening. At 7:20 p.m. the City Council entered an executive session and reconvened at 7:30 p.m. Further discussion held on the event described by Mr. Helms and with the consent of Mayor Parry the City Council will approve the event during the regular meeting with the understanding that the cost to the City will not exceed $2000 and that the City's insurance be extended to include the said event.
