PRESENT:
ABSENT:
Councilmen Gilb, Pellegrino, Parry
Councilmen Margett, Saelid
Councilmen Margett and Saelid were excused on MOTION by Councilman
Gilb, seconded by Councilman Pellegrino and carried unanimously.
The Chairman of the Diamond Jubilee, James R. Helms, Jr., explained
in detail an event which the COllllllittee has approved un a "Symphony
under the Stars" by the San Gabriel Valley Symphony Association,
which would underwrite the costs of the orchestra and the exposure
of costs to the city would be limited to such items as printing,
tickets and programs. Most other expenditures would be taken out of
the proceeds from the sale of tickets. The net profits would be
divisible by three - one third each to the Diamond Jubilee, Arboretum
Foundation and the San Gabriel Valley Symphony Association. The
City's insurance coverage of the Diamond Jubilee would have to be
extended to COver this event.
Councilmen Gilb and Pellegrino were in favor of the activity as
described, however Mayor Parry would like some guarantee that costs
to the City would not exceed a definite amount. Inasmuch as time is
of the essence the Council advised Mr. Helms it would act on the
matter later this evening.
At 7:20 p.m. the City Council entered an executive session and
reconvened at 7:30 p.m.
Further discussion held on the event described by Mr. Helms and with
the consent of Mayor Parry the City Council will approve the event
during the regular meeting with the understanding that the cost to
the City will not exceed $2000 and that the City's insurance be extended
to include the said event. (See minutes of the regular meeting for
this official action.)
At 7:30 p.m. the meetin..ll adJourned'sine die.
