HomeMy WebLinkAboutDECEMBER 19,1978 ROLL CALL I 23:9687 MINUTES CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 19, 1978 The City Council of the City of Arcadia, California, met in an adjourned regular session on Tuesday, December 19, 1978 at 7 p.m. in the Conference Room. PRE SENT : ABSENT: Councilmen Gilb, Margett, Pellegrino, Saelid, Parry None The Chief of Police advised that Neal Johnson has been appointed Captain and Mr. Johnson accepted the congratulations of the City Council. DANCE PERMIT The City Manager advised that all problems connected with the Long Branch APPROVED Saloon, 131~ E. Huntington Drive, have been resolved to the satisfaction /D jJC ( of Building and Fire Departments. Whereupon it was MOVED by Councilman ('. fl' ,;150 Gilb, seconded by Councilman Margett and carried unanimously that a dance J>fl~M permit be issued to said business and that the annual business license be renewed. EQUIPMENT PURCHASE Fire Dept. f: / ,<(;. \-Q/\',,,I'" ?;Lif-'-' 1 PUBLIC PARKING LOT SWEEPING CONTRACT f, Tl (,1).: j/ p I GLIDER FLIGHT~ [) ~" r METROPOLITAN PLANS FOR DESEGREGATION OPPOSED / ADJOURNMENT The City Manager explained that the 1972 Mack Diesel Engine No, 2 has been removed from service due to engine failure and the need for major mechanical repairs. Staff is of the opinion that with proper repair a minimum of ten years additional first line service can be anticipated and five years of reserve use. A new engine would cost approximately $13,000 which would carry a two year warranty and acceptance test. It was MOVED by Councilman Gilb, seconded by Councilman Margett and carried on roll call vote as follows that the engine be purchased and that Mack Trucks, Inc, , be authorized to perform all necessary work. Funds are in the Fire Department Equipment Account. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Councilmen Gilb, Margett, Pellegrino, Saelid, Parry None None On recommendation of the Parking Place Commission it was MOVED by Councilman Gilb, seconded by Councilman Pellegrino and carried on roll call vote as follows that the City contract with Henry J. Friedrich, dba A-l Power Sweeping Company, to sweep the public parking lot within the corporate limits of the City for a period of one year commencing the 25th day of January 1979 and ending the 25th day of January 1980 unless sooner terminated pursuant to the Agreement (No. 79-1) for the sum of $110 per month and that the City Manager be and he is hereby AUTHORIZED to execute the agreement. Funds are in the Parking Maintenance District Fund. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Councilmen Gilb, Margett, Pellegrino, Saelid, Parry None None In response to an inquiry about the possibility of the City permitting glider flights it was the consensus of the City Council that they would not be appropriat e for this area and the City Attorney will impart this position to the persons making such inquiry. The City Attorney will prepare a resolution for Council consideration supporting the position taken by the Arcadia Board of Education in opposing the proposed Metropolitan plans for desegregation.
