CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA
ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
OCTOBER 13, 1977
The City Council of the City of Arcadia, California met in
adjourned regular session on October 13, 1977 at 4 p.m. in
the Conference Room.
PRESENT:
ABSENT:
Council Members Gi1b, Lauber, Margett, Parry, Sae1id
None
The City Attorney explained the content of a proposed ordinance
which would amend the City's Newsrack regulations as to time,
place and manner of newsracks on the public sidewalks which would
be more restrictive in those areas than what is presently being
followed. The current newsracks are of different make, vary in
height, width and in the types of supports they have.
Also present at this meeting were representatives from the Herald
Examiner, Pasadena Star-News, Los Angeles Times, Arcadia Tribune,
and the Wall Street Journal. Certain newsracks were also on
display and Council inspected each along with the types of
supports.
In discussing the advertising to be permitted on the panel the
consensus of the City Council was that it preferred no advertising
on the panel. Council Member Gi1b was not in favor of this
restriction. A preference for the single pedestal was also
submitted by Council. The City would make the determinations as
to locations on public streets.
The City Attorney will redraft the ordinance for presentation to
Council at its next regular meeting.
The Meeting adjourned at 7 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. October 18, 1977
