HomeMy WebLinkAboutDECEMBER 13,1971 ROLL CALL 1 SISTER CITY VISITORS BOND ISSUE DISCUSSION 1 NAOMI AVENUE ZONING ADJOURNMENT 19:7978 M I NUT E S CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 13, 1971 The City Council met in an adjourned regular session with the Sister City Commission on December 13, 1971 at 7:30 p.m., in the Conference Room of the Arcadia City Hall. PRESENT: ABSENT: Councilmen Arth, Butterworth Considine, Hage, Helms None PRESENT: Sister City Commissioners Brodhead, Hackstedde, Libby, Paradis, Shepherd, Gudus ABSENT: Commissioner Pit chess Discussion held on the forthcoming visit of Mayor and Mrs. Dimitrios Soundris from Tripolis, Greece, and tentative arrangements were made, however some of the activities were definite. A copy of'the revised itinerary to be mailed to Council and the members of the Sister City Commission (copy on file in the office of the City Clerk). Resolutions and telegrams of welcome will be presented to Mayor Soundris during his stay and he will be invited to sit with Council at its regular meeting of January 4, 1972, and State and County resolutions will be presented at this time. Personal gifts were decided upon. These gifts to be funded from the Council Contingency Fund. Councilman Considine took his leave of the meeting at 8:30 p.m. Funds from the Sister City Commission budget will be utilized for the invitational luncheon at the Arboretum on December 28 and for the Reception at the Chamber of Commerce office and private dinner to follow on January 3. Six copies of the book "My Country - USA" will be purchased by Dorothy Richardson and mailed to the Library in Tripolis, Greece for use by the school children there. A "Welcome Mayor of Tripolis" banner will be displayed on Baldwin Avenue, south of Huntington Drive. The Greek flag will also be displayed at this location. Commissioner Paradis will make these arrangement s. ~- At 9:05 p.m. the Sister City Commission was excused. Ways and means of financing a bond issue to be placed before the electorate was explored. Bond Counsel, O'Melveny & Myers, are to be contacted in this regard. The architect, Marion Varner, will be requested to furnish specific figures on the construction and staff will formulate figures on operating costs of the two facilities - expanded police building and a community recreation center. Staff was directed to place the matter of Naomi Avenue land use on the agenda for the regular meeting of December 21 and removed from the agenda for the adjourned regular meeting of December 16. Property owners on Naomi Avenue are to be notified to this effect. At 9:55 p.m. Council adjourned to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16 in the Council Chamber.
