Rick Frose,'Santa Anita Fashion Park, spoke to the plans for upgrading
the Mall to update its imagery and to make it more competitive with
the other retail centers in the area. They conducted a survey of
shoppers which indicated they find the Mall very comfortable and
spacious but also find it outdated. Jim Campbell of Jerde Partnership
Architects, explained what is proposed.... improved landscaping, color-
ed banners, skylighting the ceiling for more light in the Mall.. a
water fall is planned. Materials to be used were explained. They hope
to start these improvements in January of 1988 .. cost in the neighbor-
hood of $10 million. It is also hoped that with these changes some of
the stores will do likewise.
Mayor Gilb scheduled a budget session for 5 p.m. June 2 (prior to the
regular meeting that date). The City Manager explained the procedure
to be followed. Council concurred.
The City Manager advised that the Board of Supervisors today approved
the contract with the City with regard to the fountain which is being
reactivated as of May 21.
Staff explained and displayed pictures of new plans for the Hampton
Inn and Residence Inn for inclusion in the Emkay development on the
north side of East Huntington Drive. It had been felt that the
Hampton Inn, as previously pictured, had an institutional appearance
but that has now been changed. The City Council expressed appreciation
and concurrence with the new plans.
At 7:30 p.m. the meeting adjourned sine die.
