PRESENT: Councilmembers Chandler, Harbicht, Lojeski, Young and Gilb ABSENT: None Rick Frose,'Santa Anita Fashion Park, spoke to the plans for upgrading the Mall to update its imagery and to make it more competitive with the other retail centers in the area. They conducted a survey of shoppers which indicated they find the Mall very comfortable and spacious but also find it outdated. Jim Campbell of Jerde Partnership Architects, explained what is proposed.... improved landscaping, color- ed banners, skylighting the ceiling for more light in the Mall.. a water fall is planned. Materials to be used were explained. They hope to start these improvements in January of 1988 .. cost in the neighbor- hood of $10 million. It is also hoped that with these changes some of the stores will do likewise. Mayor Gilb scheduled a budget session for 5 p.m. June 2 (prior to the regular meeting that date). The City Manager explained the procedure to be followed. Council concurred. The City Manager advised that the Board of Supervisors today approved the contract with the City with regard to the fountain which is being reactivated as of May 21. Staff explained and displayed pictures of new plans for the Hampton Inn and Residence Inn for inclusion in the Emkay development on the north side of East Huntington Drive. It had been felt that the Hampton Inn, as previously pictured, had an institutional appearance but that has now been changed. The City Council expressed appreciation and concurrence with the new plans. At 7:30 p.m. the meeting adjourned sine die. ATTEST: . ~~c~ -1- 5-19-87
