CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA
and the
ARCADIA REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
DECEMBER 15, 1987
The City Council and the Arcadia Redevelopment Agency met in an
adjourned session at 7:00 p. m., December 15, 1987 in the Arcadia
City Hall Conference Room.
PRESENT: Councilmembers Chandler, Harbicht, Young and Gilb
ABSENT: Councilmember Lojeski
Councilmember Lojeski arrived followin9 roll call.
The City Manager presented a letter which had been received from
Arcadia businessmen who took exception to the Council's action with
respect to the adult entertainment business matter in Arcadia. Mayor
Gilb wrote a letter to the local businessmen explaining the matter
and putting it in perspective.
The City Manager also noted that two items were being withdrawn from
the agenda of the regular meeting to follow -- Items 6d and 6e under
CONSENT ITEMS (report and recommendation for the purchase of aerial
lift and cab and chassis for the Public Works Department).
Discussion ensued regarding the need for lights at the Museum Building.
Councilmember Harbicht said that originally they did not anticipate
the Historical Society using the building at night. It was pointed
out that the Historical Society holds board meetings there at night.
Councilmember Harbicht said he did not think the City should spend
a lot of money to provide lighting. Mayor Gilb said that if it were
all right with the Council, he would like to request that staff come
back with a report regarding the proposed cost of lighting for the
Museum Building. It was the consensus of Council that such staff
report be brought back to Council.
Larry Adamson and Bob Sherman of the Automobile Club of Southern
California were present to 9ive Councilmembers a preview of the
proposed office in the Gateway Centre project. A formal design
review will be presented later. This is merely to give some
preliminary information and receive comments from Council. The
bUilding is a proposed three story, 25,200 sq. ft. office building
that will house the relocation of the Monrovia Automobile Club and
possibly consolidation of other district offices. They feel the
design is handsome for the area and takes into account the architectural
elements that the City was looking for when they adopted the Disposition
and Development Agreement. Renderings of the proposed building and
landscaping were presented. The signage was also briefly discussed.
There was some discussion about scheduling with regard to the
racing season at Santa Anita; also some discussion about Sunday
racing. It was noted that any matters relating to this schedule
could be brought before the Racing Board.
