HomeMy WebLinkAboutJANUARY 31,2006 I I I ROLL CALL 48:0012 JOINT MEETING MINUTES Arcadia City Council/Redevelopment Agency and The Arcadia Board of Education TUESDAY, JANUARY 31,2006 6:00 p.m., Arcadia High School Library 180 Campus Drive, Arcadia PRESENT: Council/Agency Members Chandler, Kovacic, Marshall, Segal, and Wuo ABSENT: None PRESENT: School Board Members: Gibson, McClain, Romo, Steinmeier, and Yuen ABSENT: None SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM STAFF REGARDING AGENDA ITEMS None. AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION - (S minutes per person) REPORTS a. None. Report and Discussion - District Facility Improvement Program Dr. Mimi Hennessey, AUSD Superintendent. Christina Aragon, AUSD Assistant Superintendent. and Dr. Joel Shawn, Deputy Superintendent, presented a report regarding the District's Facility Improvement Program; they provided a historical overview of school facilitles, the needs assessment process for determining priorities for improvement projects, the various existing funding sources, and the options for raising revenues for improvements. AUSD staff responded to questions from the City Council regarding restrictions on funds, use of bond proceeds, developer fees, and AUSD's ranking for improvement funding in comparison with other districts in California. b. Report and Discussion - School Traffic Safety Board Member Ramo orovided a historical oersoective of the "equilization of fundinQ" issue. ADDmONAL BUSINESS Bill Kelly ,City Manager, and Bob Sanderson, Police Chief, presented a report regardmg the City and District's joint effort regarding school traffic safety; they noted the City's new Transportation Master Plan and Fee program, the impacts of school facility design on current traffic trends, and the new videotape program currently undelWay at various school sites; additionaily, a traffic education program partnered with traffic enforcement, sponsored by the Arcadia Police Department, is currently in progress at the various school sites. Council Member Chandier requested support from the City Council in placing an item regarding two vacancies on Arcadia's Board and Commissions on the City Council's February 7, 2006 Regular Meeting Agenda. A motion was made by Council Member Chandier, seconded by Council Member Marshall, and supported by Council Member Segal in order to get the majority vote needed to place this item on the upcoming agenda. 1 01-31-2006 48:0013 ADJOURNMENT At 7: 10 p.m., the City Council/Redevelopment Agency adjourned to their Regular Meeting on Tuesday. February 7, I 2006. 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber Conference Room.
