HomeMy WebLinkAboutAPRIL 15,2003_2 I I, I 45:0060 CITY COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS ARE TAPE RECORDED AND ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK ROLL CALL 1, UPDATE ON NATIONAL ISSUES (Congressman Dreier) A J MINUTES CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA and the ARCADIA REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY SPECIAL MEETING April 15, 2003 As authorized by Arcadia City Charter Section 408 and California Government Code Section 54956, a Special Meeting of the Arcadia City Council was called by Mayor Marshall to be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at the City of Arcadia Development Services Conference Room, 240 West Huntington Drive, Arcadia, California, at 6:30 p.m. Said meeting was called for the purpose of meeting with United States Congressman David Dreier, 28th District, for an update on national issues. PRESENT: ABSENT: Councilmembers Chang, Kovacic, Segal, Wuo and Marshall None Others in attendance: United States Congressman, David Drier and Mark Harmsen. AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION NOne. Congressman Dreier expressed gratitude for the extraordinary support that the community of Arcadia has provided throughout the years, He noted that he has had the privilege of serving in the United States Congress for twenty-three years; representing twenty plus cities extending from west of Downtown Los Angeles to San Bernardino, and this is the first time that he has had the opportunity to be present at a reorganization ceremony of a City Council. Congressman Dreier highlighted future projects, stating in part that. retrofitting has been a very high priority, There is a great chance to receive funds to use for a regional multi-use Forest Service facility by the 210 Freeway. Another high priority is the Gold Line Phase II project and the expansion of the Alameda Corridor East. He believes that the Gold Line will have a very positive impact in the community, He will do anything he can to address those issues important to Arcadia, in Washington. A discussion of various issues such as economics, war with Iraq and terrorism ensued. Congressman Dreier felt that after the war, the rebuilding of Iraq will take at least two years. The goal in a rebuilding effort is to allow the Iraqi people to select their leaders. The Special Meeting ADJOURNED at 7:05 p.m. ~~ A\) 1 4115103
