HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 1b - Weed Abatement ChargesGPyIFOR�rj9 Inc..po..t,d A.—t " 1903 i \Unity of STAFF REPORT Office of the City Clerk DATE: July 16, 2013 TO: FROM Honorable Mayor and City Council Gene Glasco, City Clerk Lisa Mussenden, Chief Deputy City Clerk/Records Manager SUBJECT: CONFIRM THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL COMMISSIONER/WEIGHTS AND MEASURES WEED ABATEMENT CHARGES Recommendation: Approve SUMMARY Annually, the County of Los Angeles Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures (the "County ") abates weeds, rubbish, and refuse from certain properties located within the City of Arcadia. This public hearing has been scheduled to provide Arcadia residents, who have been charged an inspection and /or abatement fee by the County, an opportunity to protest the weed abatement charges. DISCUSSION On July 3, 2013, the Los Angeles County Agricultural Commissioner's Office delivered the attached weed abatement charge list (Attachment 1) and a list of properties (Attachment 11) within Arcadia City limits which the County has removed weeds and assessed charges. Each property has been posted and noticed regarding the public hearing. If a property owner objects to the assessed charge during the public hearing, the City Council may elect to have the matter investigated by the Arcadia Fire Department or overrule the objection. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact to the City as a result of City Council action on this item. Confirm Weed Abatement Charges July 17, 2012 Page 2 of 2 RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council confirm the weed abatement charges and order the County Auditor to enter the amounts of the assessment against the parcels of land as they appear on the current assessment roll.
