LOPEZ, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS SUBJECT: RECOMMENDATION REGARDING PROPOSED SOUNDWALL PROJECT ON THE WESTBOUND ROUTE 210 FREEWAY IN ARCADIA FROM SECOND AVENUE TO FIFTH AVENUE Background Attached for the City Council's consideration is a draft of a letter to Jerry Baxter, the District Director of Caltrans, requesting that the subject soundwall project be accelerated and included in the next (1994) State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) in accordance with Senate Bill 511 (C. Green of 1991. S.B. 511 added Section 215. 6 to the Streets and Highways Code and requires that any soundwall project, included for the first time in the STIP for which a City contributes at least 33% of the estimated cost, be given priority over all other soundwall projects included in that STIP for the first time. Thirty three percent (33%) of the estimated cost for the subject soundwall would be approxim tely $230, 000. Recommendation Should the City Council decide to request acceleration of the subject project and to contribute 33% of the estimated cost, it is recommended that the City Council direct staff to: 1. Spring Street Los Angeles, CA 90012 Subject: Proposed Soundwall Project on the Westbound Route 210 Freeway in Arcadia from Second Avenue to Fifth Aven e Dear Mr. Baxter: We would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff for all the cooperation and assistance you have given the City of Arcadia in the past. It was and is greatly appreciated. We now again find ourselves asking for your help. We need assistance in having the subject soundwall project accelerated and included in the next State Transportation Improvement Prggram (STIP) in accordance with Senate Bill 511 (C. Green) of 1991.1 S.B. 511 added Section 215. 6 to the Streets and Highways Code and requires that any soundwall project, included for the first time in the STIP for which a City contributes at least 33% of the estimated cost, be given priority over all other soundwall projects included in that STIP for the first time. The City of Arcadia is willing to contribute 33% of the esti ated cost of the subject project and requests your assistance in having it included in the next STIP. Thank you in advance for your help.
