SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE AND DIRECT THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A ONE
YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH DANIELS TIRE SERVICE FOR
THE PURCHASE OF TIRES AND TIRE RELATED SERVICES FOR CITY
VEHICLES IN THE AMOUNT OF $86,616
Recommendation: Approve
SUMMARY
On September 4, 2012, the City Council awarded a contract to Daniels Tire Service for
the purchase of tires and tire related services for City vehicles. Daniels Tire Service has
reached the end of their contract and has submitted a written offer to extend the existing
contract for an additional year with no increase in prices. All other conditions in the
agreement are to remain in effect. This is the first contract extension for Daniels Tire
Service.
Based on the excellent service provided during the past year, it is recommended that
the City Council authorize and direct the City Manager to approve a one year contract
extension with Daniels Tire Service for the purchase of tires and tire related services for
City vehicles in the amount of $86,616.
DISCUSSION
The Public Works Services Department's Fleet Section is responsible for purchasing
and maintaining tires and accessories for all City vehicles. In order to prevent an
interruption in daily operations, the Public Works Services Department maintains a
contract with a tire service supplier who provides tires and tire related services on an
as- needed basis. For example, Daniels Tire Service responds when called to replace a
flat tire on a fire engine or on heavy duty equipment. Daniels Tire Service also carries
specific tire sizes and brands that the City uses. Since the contract is on an as- needed
basis only, the City expended approximately $48,000 for new tires and tire related
services from Daniels Tires Service during this contract period.
