HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 1d - Contract extension for Street Striping and Pavement Marking ServicesDATE: November 19, 2013 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council STAFF REPORT Public Works Services Department FROM: Tom Tait, Public Works Services Director By: Dave Thompson, Streets Superintendent SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE AND DIRECT THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A ONE YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH J & S STRIPING FOR STREET STRIPING AND PAVEMENT MARKING SERVICES IN THE AMOUNT OF $85,000 Recommendation: Approve SUMMARY On December 7, 2010, the City Council approved a street striping and pavement marking services contract with J & S Striping with annual extensions subject to City Council approval. J & S Striping is reaching the end of their second contract extension and has submitted a written offer to extend the existing contract for an additional year with no increase in pricing. All other terms and conditions of the agreement will remain the same. Based on the excellent services provided by J & S Striping, it is recommended that the City Council approve a one year contract extension for street striping and pavement marking services in the amount of $85,000. DISCUSSION The existing street striping and pavement marking program includes annual restriping on all major arterial streets. Collector streets are re -done once every two years and commercial and residential streets are striped once every three years All pavement makings around schools are re -done annually in August before school begins. Miscellaneous striping, service requests, and requests from the Traffic Advisory Committee are handled on an as- needed basis. Last Fiscal Year, approximately $83,200 was spent on street striping and pavement marking services. Extension of Street Striping and Pavement Marking Contract November 19, 2013 Page 2 of 2 J & S Striping has provided excellent services to the City during the term of the contract. The contractor has been very responsive to special requests from City staff and has accommodated scheduling City work to meet deadlines. The contract language allows for annual contract extensions, subject to City Council approval. J & S Striping has reached the end of their second contract extension and has agreed to extend the contract an additional year with no change in pricing or contract terms. FISCAL IMPACT $85,000 has been budgeted for this service in the Fiscal Year 2013 -14 Operating Budget under the Streets account. All work is performed on a time and material basis and the contractor is only paid for work performed. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council authorize and direct the City Manager to execute a one year contract extension with J & S Striping for Street Striping and Pavement Marking Services in the amount of $85,000.
