SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT OF VOTING DELEGATES FOR THE 2014 LEAGUE OF
CALIFORNIA CITIES ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Recommendation: Approve
SUMMARY
The League of California Cities Annual Conference is scheduled for September 3 —
September 5, 2014, in Los Angeles. An important part of the Conference is the annual
business meeting that will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5. At this meeting,
the League membership, through designated voting delegates, considers and takes action on
resolutions that establish League policy.
In order to vote on behalf of the City of Arcadia at the annual business meeting, the City
Council must select, by official action, a Voting Delegate and up to two Alternate Voting
Delegates, and provide evidence of such action to the League by August 15, 2014. The
Delegate and Alternate Delegate(s) must be registered to attend the conference (either in its
entirety or just Friday), and must register at the Voting Delegate Desk prior to the business
meeting.
City Council Member Sho Tay is scheduled to attend the League Conference and is able to
serve as the City's Voting Delegate. Development Services Director /Assistant City Manager
Jason Kruckeberg is also scheduled to attend the conference. It is, therefore, recommended
that Council Member Tay be appointed as the Voting Delegate and Jason Kruckeberg be
appointed as the City's Voting Alternate.
Once the Voting Delegate and Voting Alternate have been approved, staff will forward the
required information to the League. At this time, there is one proposed resolution for
consideration at the business meeting, which involves opposing medical marijuana cultivation
in wildland areas. Additional items may be added to the agenda prior to the annual business
meeting.
