For construction methods not consistent with the construction requirements specified on this sheet, approval must be
obtained from the City Building and Safety Division before starting work.
1. Patios may only be enclosed by insect screening or readily removable transparent flexible plastic not more than 0.125
inch in thickness.
2. Roofing: For slopes of 1:12 or steeper, use a 90# cap sheet over two layers of 15# roofing felt. For roof slopes of 3:12
or steeper, 3 tab fiberglass shingles over 15# roofing felt may be used.
3. Lightweight roof shall consist of a lattice or other approved covering.
4. Heavyweight roof shall consist of approved roof coverings applied over 1/2" CDX or OSB roof sheathing.
5. . Ledger may be placed over exterior plaster with prior approval of inspector when studs or top plate are carefully located.
6. A patio cover may be supported on a 3 1/2" thick concrete slab provided each column does not support a dead and live
load in excess of 750 pounds per column - verify requirements with City building inspector or building official.
