C5268.01-106-47 Architectural Testing Page 5 of 12 Revision 2: 10/10/13 Test Procedures: All deflection measurements were taken using a 1.000" by 0.001" digital indicator and recorded the movement of reference points on the ceiling grid system components to an independently rigid steel support structure. Loads were applied using 1 lb zinc weights uniformly distributed. The Architectural Testing representative recorded all weights using Worthington Armstrong's verified, calibrated scale. All measurements were taken once the digital indicator stopped moving and made to the nearest 0.001". This process was repeated until the ceiling grid systems failed. End detail compression and tension tests were performed on Worthington Armstrong Venture's Chatillon Model UTSM Universal Testing Machine (WAVE 0941.42). Loads were applied at a rate of 0.5 in/min and measured with a calibrated force gauge located on the test apparatus. The tensile tests were performed on a Lloyd Instruments LR 30K Universal Testing Machine. A total of six coupons were prepared by WAVE from samples obtained from the ceiling grid systems. Each coupon had a nominal 2.500 inch long by 0.500 inch test area. The specimens were stripped to base metal for measurement and individually installed into the tensile test fixtures. A 20 pound pre-load was applied to remove any slack in the sample prior to installing an extensometer to the 2-inch gauge length. Applied loads, maximum loads and elongation of the specimens were recorded using a computer procedure for the Lloyd Universal Testing Machine. The yield strength and yield point for each coupon were determined by plotting a stress-strain diagram. Thickness, length, and width measurements, before and after testing, were taken using 0.001 inch digital caliper (Asset No. 6381-1)and a 0.0001 digital micrometer(Asset No. 6381). Wire pull-out tests were performed on a Chatillon Model UTSM Universal Testing Machine (WAVE 0941.42). Loads were measured with a calibrated force gauge located on the test apparatus. Main Runner Specimens were secured both horizontally(90°)and at a 45° angle to the test stage and 12 gage wire threaded through a pre-punched hole in a manner representative of field installation conditions. Tensile load was applied at a rate of 0.5 in/min perpendicular to the specimen length until failure was observed. Superficial Rockwell hardness measurements were made on six samples of material taken from untested tensile coupons, coil stock or component retained materials. The samples were acid stripped of their galvanized coating. The testing was performed on a Wilson Rockwell Model C523-S Digital Hardness Tester (97356412). Hardness testing was performed in accordance with ASTM E 18, Test Methods for Rockwell Hardness and Rockwell Superficial Hardness of Metallic Materials. Steel thickness measurements were made using a Mitutoyo IP65 Digital Micrometer with ball anvils(WAVE Asset No. 6381, Cal. Due 04/22/2013).
