The City Council, at this meeting, directed staff to schedule interviews with those applicants interested in serving on the Planning Commission. Interviews were conducted on July 15 and July 21. This agenda item will enable the City Council to take action to fill vacancies on the Planning Commission. DISCUSSION: At their meeting on June 16, 2015, it was the consensus of the City Council to schedule separate interviews with those 12 applicants who were interested in serving on the Planning Commission and had applications on file. On July 15, 2015, the City Council conducted eight (8) interviews with potential candidates, and on July 21, 2015, the last four (4) are scheduled. For City Council consideration, two (2) appointments to the Planning Commission must be made at this meeting. One position is for a full four year term, and the other position is to fill an unexpired term, which expires June 30, 2016. Pursuant to the City Charter, an individual appointed to fill an unexpired term is eligible for reappointment and may serve up to an additional two full consecutive terms. All applicants have been verified as residents and registered voters of the City. Mr. Falzone who resigned with one (1) year remaining on his four (4) year term was the Planning Commission's Chair. Mr. Baerg, who was the vice - chair, agreed to continue his service on the Planning Commission until appointments by the City Council were made. Because there are two matters currently pending before the Planning Planning Commission June 16, 2015 Page 2 of 2 Commission, staff recommends that the terms of the new Planning Commissioners be effective August 15, 2015. This would allow Mr. Baerg to continue to preside, as vice - chair, over those two pending items that are currently before the Planning Commission. One item is scheduled for the Planning Commission meeting of July 28 and the other one August 11. Attached to this staff report is a summary sheet with the names of those applicants that interviews were scheduled with and are interested in serving on the Planning Commission. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact as a result of City Council action on this item. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council make two appointments to the Planning Commission effective August 15, 2015. Approved.
