Trabbie, Fire Chief �� By: David Haney, Deputy Fire Chief /OperationsT/7 SUMMARY BACKGROUND Fire Department SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A ONE (1) YEAR CONTRACT WITH LIFE ASSIST, IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $55,000.00, FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF PARAMEDIC FIELD SUPPLIES UTILIZED DURING EMERGENCY MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2010 -2011 Recommended Action: Approve During the course of fiscal year 2010 -2011, the Fire Department has the need to purchase paramedic field supplies to replace those utilized during emergency medical treatment. Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Life Assist, in the amount not to exceed $55,000.00, for the replacement of paramedic field supplies utilized during emergency medical treatment for fiscal year 2010 -2011. The Fire Department maintains an inventory of paramedic field supplies, including medications, intravenous fluids, assorted needles, bandages, splints, tape, gloves, oxygen masks, EKG paper and electrodes, and other miscellaneous medical supplies. These items are used on a regular basis during medical treatment of a patient and standard emergency operations. In addition, the Fire Department also maintains in its inventory additional paramedic field supplies to mitigate larger -scale incidents in the event of a disaster. Traditionally, paramedic field supplies utilized by the Fire Department are restocked using a private medical supplier. Mayor and City Council July 6, 2010 Page 2 of 2 DISCUSSION In May 2010, a notice inviting bids for paramedic field supplies was sent to thirteen (13) vendors. Four (4) bids were returned, of which two (2) were "no bid." Life Assist was the lowest bid that met the specifications outlined in the contract. By awarding the contract to Life Assist, the City of Arcadia has ensured a quality inventory of paramedic field supplies at a fiscally responsible cost for fiscal year 2010- 2011. After June 30, 2011, the City is reserving its option to renew this agreement as stipulated in the General Conditions of the Price Agreement for a maximum of three (3) years thereafter. FISCAL IMPACT The funds for paramedic field supplies are included in the 2010 -2011 Fiscal Year operating budget designated for paramedic supplies. RECOMMENDATION Authorize the City Manager to enter into a one (1) year contract with Life Assist, not to exceed $55,000.00, for the replacement of paramedic field supplies utilized during emergency medical treatment for Fiscal Year 2010 -2011.
