This is a Tudor residence with a side gable. There is a small cross gable dormer over the entry door. The

The siding is wood and the windows are 2- sash, divided vertically. There is an additional wing in the back
of the house which makes it one and one half units deep. There is also a garage that appears to be
original, with half-timbering detail on the door.

This is a very good example of the Art Deco style. Its architectural integrity is characterized by its smooth, stucco wall
surface, flat roof, chevrons along the roof line, and long vertical windows that are pressed into a geometric pattern in the wall.
There are multiple heights in the elevation. The facade has a striking ribbing and fluting motif around the transomed entrance
portico, and the medical snake -and -staff symbol hangs over the entrance. An awning hangs over the portico, suppported by
decorative, metal braces, and the porch rails are curled in a decorative manner. The building relates to its surrounding Art
Deco architecture.

P3. Description (Describe msorue and its major elements. Include design, materials, condition, ak rabons, size, setting, and boundaries)
Six buildings stand on this property. The main building, which stands in front of the five smaller buildings, combines Neoclassical and
Art Modeme motifs. Neoclassical elements include the full -height entrance porch that is supported by decoratively patterned
rectangular steel columns. "First Avenue School" is written across the frieze. There is a row of dentils along the pediment. The large
glazed windows are impressed in a square shape in the wall and flanked by ribbed pillasters.
There is a slight overhang at the roof line. Straight steps lead to the entrance porch, with closed cement
pillars. There is a handicapped access ramp at the side of the stairs. The walls are covered
in smooth stucco. The classroom buildings in the rear are cinderblock.
The first school house in Arcadia was built on this site in 1908. That building no longer stands; the main building of the present school
was built in 1919. After the 1933 earthquake, the building was reinforced and the facade was repaired. In 1959 major additions were
made to this building including an auditorium, basement and 8 classrooms. The smaller buildings were added to the property
later and are not significant.

One story residence with a rectangular plan. Cross -gabled roof with regularly laid American Spanish tile. Stucco walls with
the tile roof indicate that this represents the Spanish Eclectic style. Notable among its design accents are the square tower
on the front facade that is pierced by a segmental structural opening, round decorative moldings, and closed eaves. There is
also an exterior chimney against the southern wall. The unit is landscaped and set back from the street. There appears to be
an extension to the original framework of the house but it maintains the architectural style of the original house. An aluminum
awning provides shade, creating the front porch veranda.

P3. Description (Describe resource and its major elemerYa IrrWe design, ma6enals, oordtion, alterations, see, setting, and boundaries)
Two story commercial building that stands alone. Rectangular ground plan, flat roof. It has a corner doorway, and the entire
corner is convex. Many elements indicate an Art Moderne style. Notable in the design are the vertical fluting motifs that mark
each section. The smooth stucco surface, assymetrical facade, and grooved, rounded, wraparound overhang point to the Art
Modeme style. The focal window on either side of the corner doorway are square, single -paned windows. Round window
demarcate the second floor above the first floor large window. The building is surrounded by a paved lot.

This building is two stories on a massed ground plan. International Style influences are characterized by the flat roof and
cantilevered projection that hangs over the first and second stories. Transomed windows are set flush with the outer
wall, and they are aluminum casement windows --usual contributions to the International Style. The entrance is at the
corner of the facade. Smooth board walls intercept the windows. The side walls are parapeted, and they are made of
brick. The structure of the building is brick. The building is close to the sidewalk.
