HomeMy WebLinkAboutSection VII - MappingCity of Arcadia Mapping 101' MAPPING To facilitate the survey process, we divided the city into eight districts: Southern, Arboretum, Orange Grove, Highland Oaks, Eisenhower, Historic, Parks, Annex. Divisions were based on historic development and land use. 1. The Southern District defines all of the city south of Duarte Road (in the east) and Huntington Drive (in the west). This section includes the Santa Anita Colony which was incorporated into the city in 1891. 2. The Arboretum District is the west central district. It is bounded by Huntington Drive on the south, Colorado Boulevard to the north, Michilinda Ave. to the west and Baldwin Ave. on the east. This district was part of Elias J. Baldwin's original landholdings and contains the Los Angeles State and County Arboretum. 3. The northwest section of the city makes up the Orange Grove District. It is bounded by Orange Grove Avenue to the north, Colorado Blvd. To the south, Michilinda Ave. to the west and Santa Anita Ave, on the east. 4. The Highland Oaks District comprises the northeast corner of the city. It is bounded by Orange Grove Ave. to the south and the city limits on the north, west and east. 5. The Eisenhower District is the east-northeast section of the city. It is bounded by Orange Grove Ave to the north, Colorado Blvd to the south, Santa Anita Ave to the west and 5th Ave. (the city limit) on the east. This district contains residential r. and commercial properties, many of which were built in the 1940s and `50s. 6. The Historic Downtown District makes up east central Arcadia, bounded by Baldwin Ave. at the northwest, with a western border running diagonally along the northern edge of the two large parks. The southern border is Duarte Road and the eastern border is the city limit (5th Ave.). 7. The Parks district combines the two small central parks: Arcadia County Park and Santa Anita Park. Arcadia County Park is county property within the limits of Arcadia. It contains several buildings which have relevance to the history of the City of Arcadia. The city may want to consider further steps to protect these properties. Santa Anita Park was not included in our survey since it had been surveyed previously and is already listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 8. The Annex district was added to the city in the 1960s. It contains 2 sand and gravel mines and an industrial park. Its borders are Peck and Durfee Road, Randolph and State Streets.
